Are you removing them to replace the discs ? I was when i hit this problem. Solution - big angle grinder to remove the heads..... and some of the disc :)

NOt sure if this is gearbox related but the speedo on my PH1 172 has become erratic. At times it reports speed perfectly but then sometimes it drops and then comes back and so on. I guess it is aproblem with the speed sensor as the odometer also stops recording. Where is the sensor ? Cheers

i am interested to know whether all this lowering stuff improves the handling ? i can have a guess at no........ your problem is easy to solve. remove all dampers and replace with solid bars. this will remove all movement of suspension and stop the body rolling. you may need a new spine...

Buy the 'rally car source book' and work out the base spring rates. Calculations are included. Experiment from there on !

we vac out the tyres on the race car and fill with nitrogen. its more stable through heat changes.

learn from experience. fix the headgasket and dont take any short cuts. head off new gaskets and refit properly. dont forget to get it skimmed unless you want to do it all again in a few weeks / months. possible replace the thermostat also. does the heater still work ?

why are people talking about a compression test ? this seems to me as complete nonsense. no cambelt means no cam rotation. this will not determine internal engine damage. some valves will probably be on the cam lobe so will be open thus no compression. plus if the belt has gone all that...

Top tip in my experience. Take off a door handle in the house. If you have modern door handles then they usually contain a square bar that can be used on the sump plug.

Its a 2.0 16V RXE - 140 bhp i believe.

Have a squeaky water pump on the megane scenic. It is a 2.0 RXE 2000 so must be closely related to a 172 ( F4 engine ). How easy is it to change the water pump ? I guess it is driven by the aux belt. Any special tools required ?

i have a new one in the door of the car. will pop out later and get the part no for it.

if they are only light scratches then i rub them down with wet and dry. I dont bother filling them unless they are deep gouges.

If you want exclusivity then it has to be a Phase 1 in Sunflower. How many were sold in the UK ?

yes a Mk1. i almost rear ended him going into Abbey when he jumped on the brake ! did you see the yellow Mk1 that won an award . not my cup of tea ! had all those speakers and special paint but obviously had a limited budget for non essential items such as tyres ! Did you notice the NANGKANG...

Sorry to hear this mate. I didnt see you at the time. Guess this made me the only Phase 1 on track then. Mine was the sunflower. I got stuck behind a very pedestrian Megane but even so, my son and his mate enjoyed it.

There is a 'rare' Sunflower Phase 1 on ebay at the moment. My 172 is in Sunflower but i like the original look ! For phase 2 i like the Monaco.

I appreciate not much point on the road but i am thinking beyond that.

You say that but first impressions usually tell a good story ( or not as in this case ). He has spent so much on wheels and other s***t. Probably couldnt afford to keep it serviced. Thats how i would look at it . Just noticed it is a 195 ! Must be quite some induction kit to make that gain !

Back on ebay. Doesnt look as good as my sunflower 172 :) What is all that stuff stuck on it ! I prefer the standard look .... "the renault sport graphics are also standard" - s**t that means mine has been modified. Where can i get some graphics like these standard ones ...

Maybe a 172 scenic would be fun. It would keep your attention !

buy yourself a quicker car. i have a 172 and the wife has a 2.0 scenic. cant quite imagine how it would handle with 170 on tap !
