    Retrofit cruise to a phase 1 172

Old post bump but it seems the most suitable place. I have a 2002 Ph2 172 which doesnt have cruise. I assume from your post above I can fit those two components and then it will "just work"? Is the plug for the cruise buttons behind that dash panel? What about the plug for the steering wheel...

whats the grippiest tyres i can get for front?

Unless turbocharged, or you have the mechanical sympathy of a chimp, no clio should be losing traction in a straight line in third. I'd be getting the geometry checked out and making sure none of the front suspension has play in it as this will make any tyre feel awful. After that, ANY decent...

    172 speedo signal

This suggests its a single wire from the ABS module http://www.cliosport.net/threads/can-anybody-get-hold-of-a-wiring-diagram-for-the-abs-circuit-on-a-172-02.405325/ This suggests its a twisted pair and canbus trickery...

    172 speedo signal

Hi, I have a clio 172 which has had a replacement gearbox with no speedo sensor hole. Does anyone know what the pulserate is on these boxes? Ideally I need to know how many pulses the dash sees per revolution of the diff and then I can rig up an alternative sender. Cheers

Breaking cover......*AG content from page 45*

I did wonder, it seemed like a bit of an oversight! Glad it's in hand, just better mentioned now than after a failure, people used to be awful for machining all the radii off vauxhaul front hubs when they did big block transplants At least on the front you have the CV joint to hold the wheel on!

Breaking cover......*AG content from page 45*

I love the idea and I love the have a go attitude, but I REALLY don't like the way the most important machining features are missing in the new ones, there is almost no radius at the section changes which will cause fatigue cracking issues in time. I'd personally bin this batch and do them again...

Improving track time vs budget dillema

exactly, you're doing a trackday so laptimes are irrelevant, its ALL about how the car feels to drive IMHO. I HATE cars with sloppy suspension and the more grip you have the more noticeable any wear and slop becomes.

    Cruising Speed / Revs

Im not suggesting you do it, simply saying a modern engine in good condition will have no issues sitting at the rev limit continuously, and certainly wont mind doing 4krpm.

    Cruising Speed / Revs

in a well serviced and maintained car I;d have no issue running it just shy of the limiter all day long tbh. 4000rpm will wear you out long before the car in my experience, its just a very unpleasant place to be.

    Shared Ownership of a car

No worries at all! I've seen various arrangements and given it a bit of thought over the years and in the right circumstances it can make a lot of sense.

    Shared Ownership of a car

Id happily share a car, but only on the agreement that running costs were split and only with someone who could afford to buy me out of my half if (when) it got binned. I wouldnt then use that car as a daily (I can afford to run a daily and as it's then free to take on track, that too, and its...

Improving track time vs budget dillema

Do the suspension properly and make do on tyres for now. Very sticky rubber with half shagged suspension will feel AWFUL. TBH for trackdays, find someone who races on the same size tyres you need and buy their used tyres. I paid £120 for my last set of A048s and £136 for new rainsports and I'm...

Insurance for 25k miles inc business use with 50% power increase and an SP30

This morning has been fun so far.... I need to find insurance for my VW Bora, which has about 50% more power than when it left the factory, for 25k miles per year, including around 5k of business use and I have an SP30 from May '15. There are companies who can deal with each of those, but very...

Using a daily on track through-out the year

As said, no issues at all. Just make sure its got no outstanding issues and change the tyres, pads and fluid for something which won't die too quickly. The only issue is having a backup plan to get the car home and get to work if you (or someone else) bins it and damages your car.

Daily hack - Leon Cupra wreck

It makes financial sense if you keep it for a LONG time. Mine will be sold when it needs something big, or at 210k as I'll then personally have driven 100k in it. It doesnt make sense if you do all the work and expense and then give it to someone else to reap the benefit and do it all over again!

Daily hack - Leon Cupra wreck

Never said it wasnt reliable! I wanted a PD130 with the 6 speed box and I wanted a black one. Went shopping to find a nice example with FSH and good paint and wound up buying a black one.... Bought from a guy on an estate who's wife arried home with it warm, in the rain, with 108k and no...

Stopping my discs from rusting - will it damage them?

Theyll clean up from where they are, but not if theyre left to get worse all winter. Mine was stored outside this summer and I ended up replacing the rears, properly ruined.

Daily hack - Leon Cupra wreck

Good effort, I have a bora on the same platform whch was also a terrible purchase, I think the shell, dash and carpets are about the only bits that havent been removed or replaced now.

Stopping my discs from rusting - will it damage them?

I painted mine with zinc rich primer before I tucked the car away in the garage for the winter. It'll burn off at the first trackday.

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Apart from the cost, the fact that aftermarket ones appear to be 'lifed' components etc, no, but given that I've never been tempted personally. Oldschool fiat pandas had a nice combination, one plain tapered stud to align the wheel and then bolts.
