    Backup Reminder

Imagine how gutted I felt when I thought I'd just lost 6 months worth of source code for products which have just started to ship. (doppler radar stuff) Thank f**k I managed to get it back up long enough to pull the data from it.

    Backup Reminder

All other machines are Macs and are backed up using time machine, so have a mix of monthly, weekly, daily and hourly backups, the time machine server/nas is backed up to drives which go offsite. It's just that this particular machine was in a semi-retired state and just slipped through the...

    Sygic Aura

It's fast, f**king fast even on a 3G. It slows down when there's lots of buildings being drawn in London (I tried by the tower of London), but even then i'd say it's about the speed of TomTom, but TomTom looks crap in comparison. UI is a bit sucky, looks like a gash-droid application, they...

    Broadband speeds...

If you're on sky connect then it'll be s**t, because it's shaped to hell and is completely worthless and unusable as broadband. Search in here as it's come up before. Or read adslguide.org.uk forums. If you want broadband that works, you either need to be on sky LLU or find another provider...

    Backup Reminder

Hi, Just a quick reminder to everybody to ensure they've got backups of any important data. Yesterday, after compiling some code and nipping out of the office, I came back to my old PC which simply had the words "disk error" displayed on the screen. Trying to reboot I could hear that the...

    iMac

It is, but I saw a Apple video a while back where they'd made a boo-boo and called it "OS ES X" in the video, which I thought was a bit strange at the time. I can't remember where it was though, it may be a developer video or a Snow Leopard Server video.

Coverting DVD to iPod useable files

You need to install VLC as well to handle the decryption of the DVD. Handbrake definately does DVDs as that's all it originally supported!

Re: iPhone 4G (No longer rumours) Say 'Hi'. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/04/iphone-finder/ I think his "regret" may be being spurred on by the fact he's currently staring at the possibility of being charged with felony theft.

iTunes is a carbon application, to be honest, it requires a rewrite under both OS X and Windows.

    Steve Jobs - Adobe Flash

Flash has always sucked. For as long as I can remember, I refuse to use websites that used flash for navigation as it prevents me from navigating how I want to. Flash is thankfully going the way of the dodo. Games in HTML 5? Yes please.... http://www.benjoffe.com/code/games/torus/

Re: iPhone 4G (No longer rumours) Gizmodo are trying to hide behind journalism. They paid a substantial sum of money for something which they knew they shouldn't have, they knew exactly what it was and chose to pay for it, even if this isnt illegal, its unethical at the least. They then...

    Horner PLCs

Oh dear! I thought about suggesting updating the firmware on a unit earlier, but figured you may end up with a problem like that. Hopefully it won't take your supplier long to fix, most likely they'll just need to recompile the logic with the latest tools. Still, at least you've got to the...

    Horner PLCs

If at all possible I'd definately try connecting one of the PLC's via a hub with a PC connected and set it capturing packets that are being received and transmitted by that PLC, at least if you're plugged into the network at the same termination point as the PLC you may be able to see what is...

Embedded TCP/IP stacks can be sods in systems with limited resources at the best of times. How often do they fall over? We use an embedded TCP/IP stack and if we run out of RAM (I'm talking about devices here with 64 kilobytes of ram!) we lose the ability to receive packets but the devices can...

Re: iPhone 4G Rumours The screen is void of the etched identifier, a prototype cetainly wouldn't have been allowed outside of the labs without this and it definately wouldn't have been authorised to go out prior to a product announcement. Its either total crap or somebody is sweating on their...

The fact that you're posting on a internet forum almost certainly precludes you being the target market. The target market for this is the casual internet user, people who do light internet browsing and emailing, "couch surfers".

    'secerity tool' taken over pc

It's a virus, my fiances brother had this on his PC a few weeks back. You can Ctrl+Alt+DEL to kill the task and then start explorer. You can probably find some automated tool to remove it, I did it by hand.

    iPhone 4.0 Event April 8th

Sheesh, is it really that hard to grasp? Apps already have adverts. The advert system is currently provided by third party suppliers. Apple are providing their own framework to app developers to use, which means the developer gets paid in a single place. The only change for the end user is...
