    OSX Lion Thread

Yep. I had a safari window open in the dashboard behind the widgets, I could browse in it and move it around the dashboard.

    OSX Lion Thread

Took me 10 seconds to find my first bug. I launched safari and three fingered swiped to the dashboard and somehow managed to get safari in the dashboard rather than the desktop. Oopsie.

My OSX dilema [possible r****d content]

There are a number of different ways to install OS X. If you want a nice new shiny installation, but want to "keep" the old system then you should do an archive and install, this installs a nice new fresh copy of OS X but moves your previous installation to a folder on the drive. This way you...

My OSX dilema [possible r****d content]

What Tom said. The discs bundled with machines are not retail discs, they're tied to that specific model number. Archive and install is what you'll be wanting to do Roy.

    iPhone 4 screens

I'd phone up and tell them you're still not happy with the quality of the repair. If you're not happy now, then it's going to bug you more and more every time you look at it.

    Domain/Hosting Provider with IMAP Email

Google Apps. We set up an account a couple of years back, but I was unable to transfer our existing mail into it (~20GB) due to IMAP problems (and lots of nested imap folders) with our existing server. Our email server started flaking out big style a couple of months back, so that forced me to...

    Strange Gig LAN Issue

lolz. Capacitance is more of an issue in high speed signalling, filtering out high frequencies is not a good thing. Resistance is much less of an issue, especially in the sort of distances involved in the ethernet specifications.

    WWDC 2011 & iOS5

I'm on 81% which is about what i would be on with iOS4. With b2 I'd have been down to somewhere between 30-40%.

    WWDC 2011 & iOS5

Re: WWDC 2011 It has to be said that these are a bizarre set of updates, Apple seem to be adding long standing "missing pieces" with each beta, I can't remember them doing this before. Battery life is vastly improved in b3.

    iPads

I personally wouldn't buy anything that didn't have 3G, even if you don't think you need it, you'll still end up using it. We take ours out and about all the time. We went for a 16GB, purely because we don't put music or videos on it!

    wedding photographers Hampshire

Yeah, her website defiantly shows a lot of stuff with some sort of "pop". Obviously it's down to us to say what we want, a lot of her albums are full of really classy images which haven't been fiddled with, maybe the odd one or two. Other albums had more stylised photos, but this is the choice...

    wedding photographers Hampshire

We're using www.lisabeaneyphotography.co.uk for our wedding. Her photos are fantastic, we went to her studio and had a good look through her hardcopy albums of weddings that she'd done and they're all exceptional. Make sure that you visit a few photographers and have a look at the hard copies...

Anyone know how to lock browser to one website?

I've done this for a kiosk application. I did this by: 1) Writing a keyboard filter driver which prohibits Ctrl+Alt+DEL and all the other special windows keystrokes (alt+tab, ctrl+tab etc) 2) Writing an application which used QtWebkit to create a fullscreen browser app, which filters all URL...

    WWDC 2011 & iOS5

Re: WWDC 2011 b2 is considerably better than b1, b1 had some horrific bugs in email that seem to have been fixed. Given the timeframe of the "mobile notifier" guy joining Apple, it was obvious that the change to the notification system was a last minute rush job (they've cleaned up their...

    BlackBerry Vs Apple

Website done in flash is an instant "browse away" from me. You're then left with stupid games and adverts. Not having flash to me is a bonus!

    BlackBerry Vs Apple

RIM (Blackberry) are dead in the water, wall street is starting to round on them. If apple were to produce a cheaper version of the iPhone then you could watch RIMs stock drop through the floor.

Edit: ahh, I see. Video wasn't playing for me and I think I've just seen the advert on tv.

Samsung harrassing apple wanting to see iphone5

That doesn't give samsung the right to ride on apples coat tails by making the look and feel of their device almost identical to the iPhone. Companies like samsung are huge and fragmented, this litigation targets a particular operating department of samsung and besides, chip fabs are two a...

    WWDC 2011 & iOS5

Re: WWDC 2011 Lock screen notifications still don't exactly work how they should, the calendar really should show upcoming appointments, not just ones that have had their alarm "gone off". Mail doesn't seem to update properly either, you get a bing and a notification, but when you get to the...

LED Cubes - Want big time

Yeah, was a right b**ch to get the HDL correct for that, took quite a few attempts when little problems kept appearing after you thought it was all working.

LED Cubes - Want big time

Here's our motherboard for the medical instruments, has all manner of interfaces (usb device, usb host, rs232, can, ethernet) in addition to all the internal gubbins. We've got various licenses for keil and IAR compilers for various processors that we've used in the past. We use...

LED Cubes - Want big time

Urgh...Microchip.... ;) We don't use anything that doesn't have an ARM core in it, the development tools are so much better. We used a PIC on a usb device for a customer a few years back and every single C compiler I tried I managed to get to generate incorrect code, I ended up having to put...

LED Cubes - Want big time

Cool. Loving the 20 million relays. We designed a piece of test kit for tetra radios, that was full of relays too including some very expensive RF ones. In the last year we've designed two medical instruments for another company (same motherboard, interchangeable "personality" board) and been...

    Help Saving Photos

Most browsers will have a plugin which allows you to save images that have been "protected", you just need to find the appropriate plugin for the browser you use. In safari you can also enable dev mode and visually traverse the document tree (as it is rendered) to save images that don't want to...

    Electrical query

Not quite, it's amps & volts that the cable is interested in, not watts. Watts just tell you power consumption. (It was just that telling us the wattage of the hoover would allow us to figure out amps) The 13A & 250V just tell you that those are the maximum current OR maximum voltage that...
