^^ How can it be "higher" or "better" than the original recording? It's either an exact duplicate copy or a lower grade copy, but it can't be higher or better. Recording tape and vinyl is exactly the same, you can't make it any better than the source your taking it from. You can tweak and play...

Ouch, bad scrape is that.. I've used toothpaste before too, seems to work, I applied it with clean non-lint cloth, then cleaned off with a damp cloth. Allowed it to dry naturally then tried it. Won't get rid of the surface marks but should play.
