The reason why I was asking about the primer, I sprayed my boot handle and a few other small bits last summer without using a primer and it has held on ok :)

I have the original 172 manifold on mine, thought about the 182 manifold before but decided against it. Apparently a lot of work to change the manifold and it gives more torque rather than bhp.
