I cant help wondering how the renault developments have gone backwards over the years. Everyone seems to rave alot about the williams&now after the 172/182 comes the 197 which in many peoples views is one of the most disappointing cars renault have ever produced!
Exactly total waste. One main thing was the 0-60 &top speed is poor in the 197 than its is on the 172/182
You know you,ve hit a major problem when the salesman who took me out on a test drive prefered mine more than the 197 ;)

Clio turbo- BB Tuning are a waste of time. Since the problems with mine and the other guy with 182 having complained about our cam work they have,nt wanted to know.
I have 40mm apex springs on mine running with the same size alloya&although it sits very low i dont really have any major issues. Speed humps generally you need to take it easy- a recent exhaust modification has left it close to the ground but apart from that its fine
Id be really interested to know how they fair against a 182? My neighbour has just bought one-little confused as his got more money than sense,just thought he would of chose something else! I believe the top of the range model is 3.2litre?? est 0-60 about 5.5! if i remember correctly.
If your that clued up with cars why not look into a company in Sweeden called Roadtrex. They apparently do a supercharger kit that i knows been fitted successfully to a 172 which is running around 250bhp.
Ive always taken my car to my local garge instead of main dealer.
My local Renault are francise so they charge well over the top for everything!
Best advice like what ive done-find a good mechanic at a local garge and stick to them, im very fussy about who i take my car to.

Id be to know how you plan to make this run on any engine management system- mine were the 421,s and they caused serious problems even with an aftermarket ecu your looking at major work i.m.o
Unless im out of my depth here and your not going to be using ur car on the road?
Thanks Ben, This explains alot in detail which sheds some light to why my car runs so poorly.
Mine were the 421,s which according to the tuning company they would run fine as they had the power to minipulate the standard ecu to run these cams.

I think this is a very unfair comment. From what it says showing proof of a very decent company. GDI didnt tell this guy where to go but work with him very hard to attept to resolve the issue.

Dont worry about the vibrations as its because there is no longer any movement. About a year ago i changed over the bushes in the dogs mount for the uprated k-tec ones.
In my opinion they are worth their weight in gold. I found before i was going through engine mounts every few months.

According to other companies that fit them the 428,s are the ONLY cams that will run on a standard ecu, mine however with the mapping has produces serious side affects and id seriously research them before getting them...
I agree. Personally at the end of the day its to be able to stand up and show you have a 172/182 thats a bit quicker than standard. You,ll often find in most conversations you have with non-clio owners about cars that as soon as you mention the word they laugh in your face. Ive suprised a few...
I recently test drove a 197 at my local dealership. I went out with a mate of mine who works there. Was incredibly more comfortable but the performance was pants! Weather it was that it needed to be run in more or something who knows but my mate then took mine out and his reply was "wow"!
Sib- Whatever bad comments you hear from fitting a 182manifold on a 172 DONT LISTEN!
Ive resently done it and i personally think its one of the best mods ive done to my car. Ive got massive improvement in torque and power throughout.
