Lol, I like HDR when it's done right, not saying that your pictures arn't, just not to my taste. Some example of HDR's that I love...

Seems pretty good to start with and get use to the basics. As long as you have manual mode, where you decide what aperture and shutter speed to have.
Only downside to your camera is the fixed lens, but like I said should be okay to learn with.
If your looking for a DSLR then the Nikon D40...

I don't dare flash at the end when taking a panning shot like the taxi, was using the 10-20 at the time, so already had to be right on the curb to take it, the flash might make some people stop and give me what for. Would do it on dual carriage ways mind... where they can't stop...
