mines an 03 plate 172 cup with 57k on the clock. when you rev it the ticking noise etc slightly speeds up but gets drowned out by the noise of the engine and when the sound of the engine gets low you then hear the ticking slow and go back to a ticking noise.
seems to be coming from the top part of the engine where the engine cover would sit. How much more work is involved in replacing the dephaser as i'm getting the cambelt and that done in 2 weeks coz i could get it done then.
I've got a clip of the sound my engine is making while at a stand still, the knocking/tapping seems to pick up when rev'd abit but doesn't get any louder. Anybody know what it may or may not be as i'm freaking out :mad:.

Does the dephaser get changed when you get the cambelt and aux belt kits put on. Only saying this as i'm getting the a new cambelt kit and aux kit put on in 2 weeks. Does anyone know if this will resolve the issue or get it replaced will the cambelts getting done etc?
Let me know how you get on Fletch172 as i've got the same issue with my 172 cup, sounds like a diesel and when you rev the sound goes. Getting the cambelt, aux belt etc done in 2 weeks, dunno if this will solve the problem.
it's the sound when you put the clio in the diagnostic mode where it tests the gauges etc and it beeps. As soon as i hit 80mph it goes "Bing, bing, bing". Don't know how to take the thing off lol.

My 172 cup has only done 56k and nearly 5 years old. Just checked the garage history as i've only owned the car about 8 months and the oil was replaced not by a renault garage so may have wrong grade oil in. It always has sounded like a diesel lol but the oil is half full on the old dipstick.
Well it's due a cambelt change so i don't know if that makes a difference. The knocking is coming from underneath the engine cover. don't really know what it is to be honest.
I'm getting a sort of knocking noise at idle and during acceleration, sounds like a diesel. Is this due to the engine mounts needing to be changed and if so is there a guide with pictures. Tried searching but couldn't find a guide, just small sections.
My 172 Cup is gonna be 5 years old at the beginning of March and has covered about 55k. Just wondering how much is it gonna cost roughly to get the cambelt, Aux belt and full service from Renault. I know it's gonna be alot so thats why i'm saving now lol. Unfortunately this means my Yozza...
