In terms of it being restrictive yes, but you can use that as a way to improve your photography by moving around to get a bteer perspective, teaches you to move around.
Good for just about anything I think really, portraits, indoors etc. And good bokeh effect.

Also free editing software on the net such as Paint.NET and Gimp2, good but perhaps not as good as PS. Cant say I've used it PS though so cant make a fair comparison.
I mostly just tweak sharpness, contrast, colour atm. Soon to be getting CS4 and Lightroom 2.

Or Canon 450D. Think the 500D is within budget but also has HD video recording and HD, but heard AF during video recording is pap or something like that.
