Our lasses car has developed an issue :( on idle it will occasionally cause the central orange light on the dash (engine electrics with the wavy line above it) to come on and the engine starts to roll and revs splutter above 1 Mark then drop. This happens for a few seconds and car judders and...

Lol this problems getting worse now, on motorway last night accelerating up to 70, needle stuck at just over 60 for a few seconds before shooting up to 140!!! Then finally settled back at just over 75!!! Do we have a difinitive answer for where this ere sensor be located on a ph2 172?

Yeah ph 2 :) and yeah I agree.... My handbrake gator is totally different to my old one. Think they are thrown together from whatever they can find lol

Only just noticed this problem last couple of weeks. When accelerating above 60 the needle "dithers" as though it's sorta getting stuck, and rather than a smooth motion jerks around between 60-80+. Works fine (so far) below 60? Any suggestions? Did a quick search but didn't find anything tbh...

This is probably a stupid question. I have the old standard springs from my 172 in the garage gathering dust. Would they fit straight on a standard 2002 1.2 or am I totally off the wall here? Just thought if I could find a use for em may as well stick em on the wife's!

hmmmm my obvious suggestion would be try new coil pack and leads..... or borrow someone elses that are fine as a test so ya dont waste money :)

Oh and to clarify the belts were done before I took ownership! I would never use a non specialist on an RS

Agreed. My new berg had it's belts done at direct cars Sheffield and you can tell. Doesn't pull right in any gear tbh and lacks the grunt of my previous 172. Soon as funds allow Birchdown will be getting a call to change all my belts and time her up properly.

This is prob gonna sound ridiculous but check your top engine mount. The noise and symptoms are do similar to what mine was doing. I thought it was driveshaft but turned out to be a totally buggered engine mount. Might not be that but worth a look

Tbh if it was me making them I would realise and put the space in for you. Here's hoping the guy doing yours has a similar mentality!

My seat didn't tilt, turns out the wire had come loose from the frame, think there's a descriptive thread on here somewhere but if you take the cover off at the back and reach up inside there's a White plastic mount and it should be attached to the frame. That fixed mine. Wheel wise contact...

Guess what the prob was folks....... Fubard engine top mount. Totally snapped! Now replaced and working fine! Thank god!

Shall have a hunt for that :) bloody thing clanks and rattles too.... Stupid sunroof!!

Sorted. Oil pressure sensor. :) new problem is that the engine electronics light has come on and engine is rolling. Suggestions? Lol not going well this car! Oh and sunroof has leaked and soaked the seats. Suggestions on fix?
