You don't let it dry just so that it is a haze. You only need a very small amount for a thin layer.
For Collinite it should be a dry car before you apply it.
As Riz says you really want some Collinite for the winter months at least for the protection and then you can top this up.
I've been using CG Blitz and some times OCW which just keep the Collinite topped up. I would use something like CG Wash'n'Wax shampoo for the wash part.

You only need a very thin layer of wax to then take off before it dries usually.

It needs a bit of help but it should just be the clips holding it in, it won't break even if it looks like it might. Everything just clips on again when you come to put the new one on too.
I've tried to get insurance at 20 and it's stupid money so I'm just waiting till I'm 21 then get one then, I just see it a waste of money for a couple months to wait when you can get a decent price then.
