my astra has ESP and does what your vectra did, totally kills any wheel spin!

brakes could be brake master cylinder or hoses

smell of burning oil - probably oil leaking onto the exhuast somewhere. Are you insane, taking it to a dealer and paying dealer prices? Any non-dealer will look for free!

had to hacksaw my valver one too. Took ages to get the little bits of plastic out of the carpet afterwards.

not all leaks are serious though. Mine leaked like a b**ch, to solve it all i did was clean the seal and the glass where it made contact with the seal!

ABS was an option if i remember right. Think youll find most probably dont have abs.

just remember theres no driver aids on a valver - no abs, tractions etc Take it easy this winter, only takes a fraction of a second to write a car off or land you with a huge bill.
