Install the K-Lite codec pack and play it through Media Player Classic I find that plays most things, I know what you mean about it not play normally though.

Meg's do a three step polish which is good for beginners and can be bought from Tim at Clean Your Car, you can get a discount too with the discount code 'ClioSport'.
Have you tried Poorboys Bug Squash or Einzett Anti Insect instead of using a sponge to do it as these can be used to in a sense soften the bugs to remove them when washing normally.
The other lambswool washmitt I've got is a Meg's one but I don't think it's as good as the ones from CarWash'n'Wax, it does the dirtier bits such as below the bump strips.
I use them with on my hand but I know that Rich prefers to use it as a sponge.
I tend to just just squirt it in the bucket, it needs a few cap fulls if your going by that measurement. With a few cap fulls you get the bubbles that you don't get with less and also you can feel that it's smoother. If you dip your hand in the bucket and then test the smoothness by rubbing...
Seems like Rich has covered it but as with Rich I have a few lambswool washmitts, the best I have are the ones from David at CarWash'n'Wax. The latest one's I got from David are even softer than the previous ones.

I think it's not really something that has a ratio as different shampoos are thicker than others, as long as the clay can glide then you should be fine.
Applied some more Top Coat Sealant to mine yesterday, here's a few pictures, I've yet to put some wax on as I didn't have time yesterday.
