Re: someph-ing different...........
Worth a try anyway... I was leaning towards Prospeed but am undecided on stealth or a single exit cut-out.
Will wing you an email if I get a chance tomorrow dude, exciting news update. :)
It might well be the option mate, I think it's going to cost me more in parts at this rate.
Have you got anymore details on the spec? CPU, Graphics, etc?
Right, new cpu fan means it takes longer to shut down but still does-at the point where its about to load windows. I've tried different memory with no luck. Am thinkin I'll borrow a different psu and check the graphics...
Cheers mate, I've gotten pretty close to binning it several times! If your system has SATA so I can just stick my HDD into it then it might be the easiest option!
Ah right, cheers mate.
So, if heatsink / fan is replaced and fitted properly and the memory is checked and I still have the problem, what would you recommend is the next step?
Lol, my MOT guy's 'sympathetic' but he said that the reading was so low (14kgf, when the O/S is about 120kgf) that he really couldn't pass it. I think his words were "fucked, mate".
The exhaust will be changing but it can wait until after Christmas now that there's no MOT issues with it...
Sorry, was saying that I'd try replacing the heatsink and fan first and if it's still no better then it's a case of thinking what else it could be.
Memory has been mentioned in here and someone in work has suggested the processor itself may have given up the ghost if the fan/heatsink isn't the...
Lol, I love her and knew that there'd be things that needed doing - hence the price I bought it for ;), but it's annoying that it's something brake-related so soon after getting all the discs and pads changed.
Even with a corroding / corroded exhaust, it's flown through the emissions test, 0%...
... on a N/S rear caliper handbrake link, or something to that effect. More money chucked at it after new tyres went on last weekend.
Only had discs & pads fitted all round a month ago.
:(
Might try that first then, failing that then I guess it's a quick swap of memory and then looking at a new processor? I think my MB can only take P4 or Celeron, but I don't know whether this is because the dual core wasn't out when the MB was made...
Development - the PC is now starting and shutting off almost instantly... a couple seconds later. Could the CPU overheat to the point of shutting down in this time?
I've had a look at the CPU fan / heatsink and it certainly doesn't seem to be securely fastened to the mobo, I am assuming that...
Re: someph-ing different...........
Nah leave the black roof idea mate, the boat's already sailed on that one IMO.
I reckon some plain black plastic mirror covers would be a nice touch, though.
Could be, but the strange light clicking / scratching noise is definitely coming from within the MB somewhere, as I remvoed the PSU from the case and then put my ears between the PSU and case! Definitely case-side...
That would be a huge help, thanks Steve. My copy might be at my parents' place apparently, so will check there and if I still can't find it I'll send you a PM.
The key is definitely right, I remember the digits from when I originally installed it.
