The "clicking" noise you are hearing is the suspension springs turning in the mounts. While they may have fixed/modified part of the problem your symptoms definately match the traditional problem.
Suspsenion mounts are faulty. Renault have a modification to fix this.
Quite a few posts on the forum about it.
Edit - Engine mounts aren't the cause. They may make a noise under acceleration/deceleration but this is clearly the suspension mounts.
Easily? Doubtful..
I've owned both cars and there's no noticable differance performance wise. Perhaps after 70 laps of Donnington the Cup may have pulled out a lead but there is no way on earth you can have "easily passed" 172/182's unless they were in reverse.
Sorry just doesn't happen.

Had to call the AA yesterday (first time in 10 years of cover) but they arrived within 15 minutes and the chap was really helpful.

I'm not aware of what "Kit Racing" is but perhaps someone else on here may know.
An hour should be plenty of time. Try seeing what the limiter point is in fourth gear as you will have longer to accurately see when it kicks in. (Motorway at nigh seems the best place)
Creaking noise on full lock is indicative of the suspension mounts needing the modification. Normally done under warranty so no idea how much that would cost. Renault are aware of this problem though and have issued a technical note about it.
As for the exhaust rattle jus knock some off so...
Faulty locking mechanism probably.
Happened twice now on my cup. You might start to notice the cental locking has a mind of it's own as you drive along.
Seems a good price obviosuly dependant upon condition.
I presume the RAC will check these but looking for dodgy engine mounts, creaking noises when the steering is on full lock and a rattle from the centre section at 4k rpm. Obviously the last 2 pointers require the car to be driven.
