Yes 75w80 is good for the 172 gearbox What have you got in it at the moment? Make sure the GL number on the back is the same if you are topping up I've been told before The box holds 3.1 litres

I have the Renault Elf 5w40 (Evolution SXR) in my 172 - good stuff :)
