Another r****d question! :)
Is it the software that is locked to the ECU or just the dongle part?
I.e this bit??
Im guessing/hoping its just the dongle???
Do you mean you can see them through the LCD screen on the clock?? If so yeah I was experimenting with something and forgot to put the filter back in!! :o
Realised after id put everything back together (dash etc!) Whoops! Dash is coming off again next week or so anyway so il fix that then :)
Yep that shopping list sounds fine...the only thing im not 100% sure on is the headlight adjustment one as I didnt have a light there (I had one on my ESP button but didnt touch the headlight one)
Yes most definately the reason yours could be blowing is that they are not rated to 12V...
Here's the passenger side one with one of the LED's that I linked to... You should be able to see that is somewhat brighter (hence its bluriness!) than my other ones as they are different types.
Passenger
Driver/Passenger side
Oh and this is what my dash looks like...
Nope the ones I linked to on the other thread will be fine as there is already a small resistor inside the switches!.. I thouhgt I had put my own in but I was mistaken!
I put one of the LEDS in today just to try il go take a piccy now....
Just done my dash now :) White :) will take some piccys later on, when you can acyually see! Can't be arsed to do the clock though! Dash will be off gain soon to do some painting anyway so il have more of a play then.
What did you use for your filter out of curiosity? Im going to make my own...
Dash was done about a year ago.. but I get bored and sidetracked and started dong my car-pc instead! Now decided to come back and finish things off.
There's some photo's here.. buts is changing to white as of tomorrow so should look Better :)...
Ahh the "easy" way! I think il just paint mine.. i like doing stuff the hard way!!
Cheers for the info though and at least I can see what they will look like white now.
By tomorrow thats what mine will be like! Fed up with blue!
Did you paint your needles white so you could see them better during the day? I.e scrapping off the orange and replacing with white?
Some more information you might want is what LEDS to change in the Climate Control. You can use any LED colour and change individual LEDS and the below details what does what!
I have surrounded the LED'S in different colours.. Red are the indication ones (as in what button is on etc) and...
Notice a few more of these popping up recently and I know there is RichMcc's guide but this is designed to let you know exactly what you need to change your dash over! And a little more additional information.
First off RichMcc's guide is located here... and id recommend using that as a...
You can use any LED whether it be 5mm/3mm or surface amount but it depends on the voltage rating of the LED. For I'm pretty sure you don't need one but I will open mine up tomorrow and take a look for you if you want?
I decided to play around with my Climate control tonight as it was fresh in...
I thought this was common knowledge to everyone?
4. Remove these tires from the vehicle and deflate to half the normal air pressure during prolonged periods of nonuse
or storage.
5. Do not move a car that is in storage with these tires, as the tires may crack.
Oh and to summarize!
I would recommend getting 50-100 of these surface mount ones..
http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Optoelectronics/Surface-Mount-LEDs/PLCC-2-High-brightness-surface-mount-LEDs/77736/kw/56-2998
And then depending on your skill/competency!
Use these...
A few pics of the heater and lock switch. I used normal 5mm BLUE led's for mine.
This is what mines like in the dark...
Climate control in actually RED in this pic but I am changing it to white very soon.. in fact sod it il do it other the weekend.
And this is...
Dash uses 6 surface mount leds... that will do your fuel, temp, rev and speedo gauges.
trip computer has 4 LEDs (taking total so far up to 10)
1 per window switch so another 3.
Clock has 2 leds.
Locking button 1
Rear Heater button 1
Climate control.... s**t loads! about 25-30...
You can use the PLCC ones that you are using for the DaSh if you cut the original led off and solder surface mount ones on.
If you want il take some pics of mine in a bit so you can see what Im on about.
Also a resistor needs to be used as the window switches are fed from +12V
PLC is the type of LED... there PLCC-2, PLCC-4... gets very confusing huh??!
From memory there's about 25 in the climate control and about the same in the dash. About 50 of the PLCC ones "should" be enough.
Then if you wanted to do the window switches etc probably another 10 or so...
