Il +1 that! My 172 will not go into first sometimes if im slightly rolling.. always has done! Technically you can do what 30 maximum in first before you change but pretty much have to be stationary to engage first gear.

I got bearings from ECP (eurocar parts) and had mine pressed out and pressed back in by someone here at work. Gave him a tenner for doing it and I "think" the bearings were £20 or so at the time. I dont know how helpfull that is!

Well personally I think the level of driving nowadays is shocking. Whether its down to people thinking the ABS or Traction control will keep them on the roads I dont know.
