Jock if its the price that is tempting you towards a Mk1 172 then how the hell are you going to be able to afford a CTR,4motion or Seat?? If you have got 10k to spend then buy the 172 and be happy. Your not going to get a better car for the money.

Seat- Disgustingly ugly, should be banned, god I hate this peice of crap. Golf- Stereotypical managers car, looks good on paper, sh!te on the reality. Civic- Good performance, 4 wheels, steering wheel, few seats... Thats about it for £16K. Griff

Where does it say the 172 has 172ps?? I have never seen this documented. I have however seen alot of Renault literature stating 172bhp.

Ben if a lack of response is going to "hold up" the cars why dont you do what anyone else would do and pay a design company to do this for you. If this is a legitimate venture you are doing I dont see the problem. More info may be useful for members on here, then you may get a higher reponse...

Jock its not just an extra £4k though is it. Ok the extra £4k will get you the CTR but it wont get you all of the options that are standard in the 172. Trust me, its not all about getting from A to B quicker by 1/2 a second. Next time you see a CTR owner in a traffic jam next to you on a summer...

Wozza like the guys have said this could be something as daft as a loose Ht lead or dodgy spark plug. On the other hand it could be a piston ring, head gasket both etc... Just use your head tomorrow and dont go with your heart. In the long term thats about the best advice I can offer you...

Nearly 6 months and 7500 miles later I would have to yes a definate yes. For £12k there really isnt anything else at the moment that I would seriously consider, not when you think of everything you get for your money. Some may disagree as we all no its not bolted together as it could be...
