The brakes will only lock up if he stamps hard on them. If he just presses the pedal a few times he'll be fine. There is need really for anyone to need to rely on abs. I've only ever had it kick in once, that was on some snow.

The orange bits don't go with colour of your car at all. Tbh they look awful.

Go over all the wiring again to make sure that the dvd player isn't on a permanent live. If it is, make it a switched live. Put the battery on charge, then try it. It was probably too flat to jump start it (it does happen)

Check them again, make sure there is no play in the connection.

I forgot to say earlier on, apart from them looking a bit suspect, are they legal ? Surely the fact that the wheels are out further than the arches makes them illegal ?

If you considering changing the wheels, a set of normal 172 ones (16") would look nice on it.
