Prolines are better than sportlines. I've had both, wouldn't go back to sport's. Neither will be a patch on H&R's. If you can afford it go for H&R's, if not prolines on standard dampers.

The 172 won't handle as well as a 182. Mines on eibachs, even's things up a bit. There's a buying guide knocking about somewhere here, do a quick search.
Drive the newest, lowest mileage 172 you can to get a feel for how they should be. Your a bit far, but I have a minter you can drive. It's for sale, but your welcome to just come and have a drive if your ever up this way.
