Wasn't 10 best of the decade, it was 10 out of their coty feature, don't think 182 had entered coty at that point (entered later that year). But the only time they did test them together in the greatest hot hatch feature, williams finished behind trophy but above 197.
Have driven one :rasp:. No offence intended, but I haven't read a review where the car hasn't been labelled as under powered. It may do the figures, but it 'feels' gutless. That's exactly how it feels to me. The 197 is, for me, the best current hot-hatch, but I'd still have any 182, or a prev...
Most likely a quick 172. My 172 was deffo quicker than my 182, but it was a freak, it's the quickest RS I've driven, felt stronger than the Morego 202.
Tried Recaro's and Cobra's in 182, Cobra's for me every time. The Recaro's just aren't low enough, because they sit on the original subframes, but with the Cobra's the subframe is custom made.
I did the same, 172FF to 182cup. I disagree slightly, always felt selling the 172 was a mistake. The 182 is a step up, but only slight. My 172 was always quicker (sold it to Grant, he'll confirm that), but I think it was one of those 1*2's that for some reason came out the box v. quick. 172...
Tried the Astra at bedford, hateful car. No steering feel, terrible traction, and to top it off the most horrendous gearknob ever produced. Like the Focus, but the mpg is laughable given that it's no quicker than a Golf GTI/Meg 225. Of the 3, have to be the Leon, but the Golf is still better.
Best way is to bring the revs up to the point needed to smoothly engage gear, then bring the clutch up. Easier to practice than blipping, as it's alla bit slower, once you've mastered that try blipping the throttle. With the first technique, if you match the revs you won't actually need the...
Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182
I'd have no problem with the mileage (my rallye's on 105k), but I wouldn't buy it when there are 172's about for the same cash with far lower miles.
I know it's a bit boring, but don't forget the legal implications of a decat. No matter what people tell you, they are an insurance voider with 99% of companies. Also, when I had my 182, I took the decat off after a week, so boomy at about 80mph.
?? how is the civic a better hot hatch if the clio is the better drivers car? Hot hatches are all about the drive. The test summary was a long term (>1 years) test, and the emails received were from CTR owners! I'm not baching the CTR, as I said a better car (for reliability etc) but it's not...
Agreed! Part of the reason Trophy value's are holding up is the low mileage, stick 50-60k on one then have a look at the values. I personally think a Trophy with high miles will be more difficult to sell as it will be one of only a few with high miles, whereas there will be plenty of 182's with...
Quite diff cars, CTR is better all round car, but 182 is def the better hot hatch. CTR has horrible steering. I've got a copy of EVO with there long term test summary of the CTR, amongst other things the build quality of a lot of readers cars wasn't great (lose body kits, lots of stone chips on...
Seats were about £700 fitted, so nice! Massively improves the driving position (custom subframes, whereas recaro's just mount on the existing). 182 cup steering wheel misses out on the silver insert, but the wheels itself is smaller and the rim is thinner, so worth the sacrifice.
