Still misfiring under load... this is getting annoying. So far we have a replacement 85k engine with good compression across all 4, timing is correct, new plugs, new coils, new TDC sensor and wiring, plus clean throttle body. Remaining suspects are failing fuel pump that can't supply enough...
Unsurprisingly Henk's customer service is crap. RS Tuning booked in for next Thursday. Pretty much finished now, just not comfortable that all is well with the engine :fearful:
Time to move all the tools out of the way and get it out of the garage
Definitely not cheap oil, like I said it's quietened down a fair bit so see how we go. Blokes not responded to the Paypal case so see how we get on when the time runs out on it.
I'll get some videos of it moving once I've finished the wiring next weekend all being well.
More slow progress as work is very busy. Cleaned the throttle body, changed the coils, checked for leaks, and seem to have a better idle.
Noisy inside as the engine is solid mounted at the bottom and everything vibrates inside the car. You can here the racket the head is making at the end...
I know. Going to clean the throttle body and check intake system for leaks, and chuck a new crank sensor on as well. Other than that not sure what else I can do to sort the idle. Just sent a message to the bloke I bought it off as he claims it ran well, worse case is I'll go down the paypal...
It runs. Sounds like a diesel from the top end but it runs, revs and idles, though its hunting like mad. Replaced the wiring between the ECU and the TDC sensor, seems to have sorted it.
Changed all 4 coils for new, ran for all of 10 seconds before dying. Checked plugs and got spark on all 4, pulled the fuel rail out and all 4 injectors firing, rechecked the timing and all okay, compression as above 160psi plus across all 4. Won't idle, sounds like shite. Happily set fire to the...
No offense at all mate! I know it's rough around the edges, and I love how it looks. Bonnet does need respraying, well re-rattle canning, as had to sand it down where I bonded the vents in.
It lives. Again. Only briefly though, won't idle. Checked compression and 165psi across all 4. Two nice looking spark plugs, 2 fouled. Assume coil packs so see if I can get some new ones tomorrow.
I had issues on the blown lump at oulton with over heating just from the sighting laps. Pulling the grills out seemed to fix it though. Could have had an issue with the stat though as I left the original unknown condition one in in my rush to get it finished.
What's the benefit of the 197...
Got the water pump changed, it's a faff of a job because of the space but didn't take long, worst bit was getting the covers off with the limited space. Went a bit overkill with the liquid gasket however filled the coolant and no more leaks.
Finished tidying up the rear wiring and made some...
I only didn't add some sealant as I didn't have any to hand otherwise I would have done just in case... So pissed off last night, I'd only got a few jobs left to finish off
The OMP one I had which looks like the one JB21 has linked to above caused steering angle sensor errors in my 172 (non cup). I changed it for a momo one like the one shown by loggyboy above, you need the tabs on the side to turn the steering angle sensor with the wheel, and no problems
Went to add the coolant and the water pump is leaking. New genuine Renault pump and gasket and nice clean mating surfaces, changed it when I did the cambelt. FFS.
Going to take the engine mount off tomorrow night and the plastic cover and hope it just needs a bolt nipping up otherwise will have...
Dash in. Had to dismantle the front of the cage which was a pain. Forgot I just bent it to get it out.... need to add a couple of support bars then wire up the panel.
Yeah, it's progressing. I'll update properly later in the week but essentially mechanically it's all back together, just working on the wiring. Got the dash back on Saturday morning and have fitted an RS250 cluster so that's ready to go in, then the switch panel needs wiring back up. Engine...
Couple from oulton just before it blew and just after....
Primer grey and satin black on the roof bonnet and tailgate, then some cheapo renaultsport stickers
Gearbox is back with R26 LSD in, below is the old open diff
Changed the crank oil seal then got clutch built back up and gearbox on. Changed the timing belt, water pump, tensioners and idler. Tried it first without loosening the cam pulleys but the timing moved out when turning the engine over...
The timing pic is from the knackered engine, the key way on the crank was between the two casting marks on the block like the manual said it should be so assume I had the crank in the correct place, either way only had a look out of curiosity. Just been painting the bay, next job is timing on...
Time to get going on this again. Finishing pulling the knackered engine earlier. Found the source of the massive oil leak, its pissing past the crank oil seal, clutch and flywheel still clean though thankfully. Also exhaust runner for cylinder three was coated with oil which matches up with the...
