Dash has gone for flocking should have it back next week and these turned up this morning from @massivewangers cheers mate, nice and light and will tidy up what remains of the doors no end
First time, a while ago, I had to dismantle the front of the cage as like you say it looks like it wont come out, this time I managed to squeeze it out with a bit of bending. Forgot to take pictures of the shifter but pretty pleased with seat, wheel and shifter position now . Was going...
Got the gearshift finished. Welded a plate over the old hole for the gear lever then drilled new holes for the shifter about 3 inches further back. Rear holes ended up inside a box section in the transmission tunnel so welded the bars into place then sealed around it. Job done.
Randomly...
No probs, can sort tonight but it's straight forward. Need some M8 spacers (ebay), m8 washers and I used high tensile bolts. There's then 4 bolts holding the column to the support. Literally a case of drop it down, elongate the mounting holes on the column as lowering it moves it forward...
Couple of small jobs. Lowered the steel column with some m8 spacers as the wheel was sitting a bit high now it has the spacer fitted because of moving the seat back due to the pedal box. 4 bolts and spacers and a bit of dremmeling and feels better.
Also took the shifter out from underneath so I...
Don't forget to put your exhaust in through the subframe / transmission tunnel gap. I did the first time around and had to drop the subframe to get the link pipe in as engine was in and definitely not coming out when I realised I couldn't squeeze it through the gap :disrelieved:
Think I'm going to move the shifter to where you put yours. Moved drivers seat back now cos of the pedal box and put a spacer behind the wheel so it's a real stretch to change gear.
Finger has healed enough to get going again. Picked this up over the weekend
R26 diff off a guy on the RSMegane forum. He's just upgraded to a gripper and I can't justify the cost of one of those at the moment so this is the cheap alternative. Hopefully get it in the box this week and get the...
Got the engine out of the M135i and gave it a clean. Going to drop it off at a local garage I trust to get the timing belt, tensioners and water pump changed. Engines done an alleged 81k but as with all second hand engine who knows how it'll do, hopefully better than 7 laps ....
Then this...
@Mash. heres my fancy lower engine mount whilst I'm pulling it apart. Works a treat and the vibration wasn't much worse than with polybush black series dogbone
The Megane I literally drove up and down our street after it was delivered then set about pulling it apart. I assume its just luck of the draw on buying a written off car, or indeed any second hand car. Just making a start pulling it apart again :weary:
Talking to a few people they were amazed...
What a shite day 😧
Started well, got to Oulton without any issues, car behaved perfectly, temps all good, boosted well. Went out for sighting laps and everything good apart from engine temps hitting the bottom of the red even with the rad fan running permanently. Removed the front grill...
Just finished....backing it onto drive then found I couldn't get it out of gear. One of the sodding gear linkage cables had come off but not in the engine bay where I can get to them but inside the shifter so had to remove exhaust, remove shifter from tunnel, find secret screws, pull it apart...
Err.. Up against it. Currently still at the garage. Alignments been done and tyres fitted, one of the front callipers is binding so they're fixing that. So I'm leaving work in 20 minutes to go and get it as they haven't said it won't be ready.
Need to make a new lower engine mount tonight and...
Mounted underneath, cut the studs off and drilled holes, clips into place like its meant to be there. Positions good but you'll want a short shifter, makes it much better. Got myself a camera mount for my iPhone so will get some pics and videos up over the next few days once I've finished...
