    EPAS on 172 Cup

Question for James/Northloop Looking at this What wiring is required for the magic little control box? I've noticed there is an angle sensor on the rack itself and there is also a plug coming from the column But I don't have plugs/wires for either of them - they just terminate at the...

Proud new owner of the Kangoo sleeper..

Ash is a mate of mine, I would have bought this of Ash if I didn't have all my money tied up at the time - Love it I'd love to put throttle bodies on it and take it on track days lol I'd guess the dashboard lights are all on because it has no ABS etc.. and the ecu has gone a bit nuts I have...

    EPAS on 172 Cup

I've had a similar issue which is one of the reasons I did this conversion - the PAS pipe is cracked badly and leaking I like the idea of being able to run full assistance day to day but for track days I can turn it right down and have more feedback through the wheel instead Got to say...

One of the major advantages to working from home is I set my own hours - so after writing the morning off going to Renparts and back I decided to write the afternoon off as well Went to GSF and bought bottom ball joints, track rod ends and inner tie rods (gone for the firstline ones posted in...

Yeah the top ones. It hits the subframe on the bottom ones?

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Easier to turn - mines drained of fluid now and there is a lot of resistance to turn it The DCI rack I can turn with my fingers

    Play in inner tie rods?

They are very floppy LOL sounds wrong Extremely loose - there's no friction on them at all I did notice on the DCi rack I just bought you have to push them around to move them - they will stay in their position. I'll get onto renault and order a pair. Cheers again mate :)

    EPAS on 172 Cup

On this DCI one only one of the mounting points is a pressed on plate - the other is part of the main pinion housing I can't see it moving about to be honest - but yeah I can see your point on an out and out race car the forces might be a bit much for it I can see why Fred wants to get the...

    Play in inner tie rods?

So a few times garages have mentioned play in the steering rack/inner tie rod joints on my Cup Now it's all apart on the bench I've put the inner tie rods in the vice and tried moving them, one has maybe a little tiny nock you can just feel but no visual movement, other has no nock at all and...

Here you go lads (sorry the pic is upside down - silly iPhone lol) The main renault part number is 77 00 437 055 - that's the one that was different to the 1.2/1.4 racks we tried It's an SMI rack

    EPAS on 172 Cup

I didn't take a note of the 1.2/1.4 rack part numbers but I can post the part number for the DCi rack when I next nip into the garage James - aye it actually feels quicker than my cup rack next to each other on the bench so I'm pretty excited to see what it's like on the car :D

    New GoPro Hero3

I hardwired my old go pro - just cut a hole in the casing and ran a 5m USB cable down the roll cage to a cigarette lighter socket with a usb adaptor in it :)

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Right then - interesting morning. I got fed up reading all the conflicting advice throughout the forum so at 7.30am did a run in the pissrat over to Kat at Renparts They were really helpful as usual and got 3 EPAS/manual racks out the back for me to play with Regardless of what a few people...

Ahhh so you measured the DCi rack with the inner tie rods and lock stops on? Bummer :( Guess the DCi rack does add a quarter turn each side then
  17. Cup_Phil

    EPAS on 172 Cup

What i'm gonna do is measure the actual length of the moving shaft (ooh-errr) and then head over to renparts in the morning, grab a 1.2 16v and a dci rack and a few others off the shelf and measure them and the number of turns If I can find something that's near enough I'll buy it as I like...

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Yep same as what I've just done - tippex mark on the rack and count Cup one - 3.25turns Twingo one - 3.2turns Both of them produce 2.8turns on the car I'm 90% sure it's because they don't actually travel all the way to the limits on the car - the little plastic spacers stop them about...

I'm also kinda tempted to buy a spare DCi rack and send it off to quaiffe On 106owners they did a group buy of custom quaiffe quick racks for us I'm sure we could get 10 people together on here to buy quick racks

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Hrmmm - how did you measure it mate? Was that just turning the actual pinion with it off the car? If I turn the pinion on the twingo rack I can get about 3.1 turns from lock to lock But on the car it says 2.8 turns There are little rubber bushes inbetween the inner tie rod and the rack so I...

My new de ja vu Cup

What happened to the 106? Also when you sell this in a few weeks can I PLEASE have the BTB ;)

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Yeah I know mate If the epas rack is more than 3 turns lock-to-lock I might do that But it weighs more and as I said I'd have to drop the whole subframe off again to put it back on I don't like the 4 bolts/bushes/brackets to mount it - it's a pig to remove The dci rack is 2 bolts to...

    EPAS on 172 Cup

I have absolutely no idea LOL so many conflicting threads on here But I'm gonna go try it at renparts - at least I can get a few racks out and try turning them all I read a thread on here from 2009 where a guy insisted that the 1.2/dci racks that use EPAS as standard are still only 3 turns...

Spot on!!! 5 minutes, 5 bolts - and it's out haha Nice to have a minor win with the car after yesterday Got a big pile of bits in the garage now lol Not sure i'm gonna be any quicker on track though lol Also does anyone know what the white wire on a ph1 light/horn stalk...

Legend I'm gonna nip out now and remove the existing column then. Hopefully I can have a few hours on it at nights this week and get it back together :D
  27. Cup_Phil

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Ahhhhhhhh thanks mate I assumed the lower part of the shaft would split from the upper - so was just going to buy an upper section So you undo the bolts on the top part of the column and then pull the entire column/shaft/gaitor the lot up through the dash?
  28. Cup_Phil

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Oh yeah I could just buy an entire column with the rubber on again lol DOH I was thinking I was just buying the top part - but I think now I'm gonna have to remove the whole dash and fit the entire column/shaft/rubber etc.. Found an epas column (full) with rubber gaitor, and ecu for £50 in...

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Certainly wouldn't have been on mine lol Original tie rods - I put the rack in the vice and used a 1.2m long pipe wrench to free them. F*ck doing that laid on my back under the car LOL Right - I'm gonna order a DCi rack tomorrow or nip over to renparts in Doncaster for one which might be...

    EPAS on 172 Cup

Yes but I don't think they'd of been much fun with the amount of play in the inner and outer tie rods. And the rack bushes were shot too Probably one of the reasons I always hated the vague steering
