It wasn't! Just an original hose that split open. The ones that no one changes as they are an arse to do.
Didn't help that I drove it along a duel carriageway for a bit trying to work out if it was steam or water off the road as it had just been raining. I'll proabbly stop straight away next time.
The only good things is its just incredibly bad luck and nothing to do with the boost (which was awesome)
The supercharger also wouldn't work easily with the s-vt so it's definitely out
Would appreciate you finding where he got his engine from as there doesn't seem to be many about at the...
Currently looking for an engine for this. One of the guys from beaniesport came out to see me and whilst we think it's the headgasket he's also worried that the tappet sounding noise that wasn't there before might point to more serious problems.
As a result it will hopefully cost me similar to...
Yeah pretty certain, I followed my dad on the way home and gunned it past him a few times and he didn't notice any smoke at all, ran really sweetly as well.
Now there's so much smoke on throttle you'd fail to miss it.
Seller also didn't hang about when he took me out in it so it wasn't like he...
So the hose is on, was a right pain but just went in from the top and used some locking long nose pliers and didn't need to take the inlet manifold off thankfully. I'll fill the system tomorrow and then go for a drive!
Yeah it should be. You can reach the oil filter so can get round to it, I think it's just a real pain to undo the clip with pliers when you can't see anything.
Hopefully the jubilee clips will make it easier to do up once the old ones off.
(Hmm is it worth £10 to take the inlet off?!)
So it turns out lots of people describe the changing off this hose as the most awkward job you can do on a 5!
You can either remove the inlet manifold, which is apparently an absolute arse of a job, but gets you access to the pipe
Or go in from the underneath but still have no space to work...
Try the picture again. The first shows the hose itself, doing a 90 degree bend. The second shows the area where the hose is behind the inlet manifold.
Plus one when it was working
I've just got a couple of pictures. It's the other side on the inlet side unfortunately. Not sure which hose I need but I would like to get one asap and then change to silicone in the near future.
Can't seem to do the pictures so I'll try again soon.
Yeah I'm gutted, at least it's just an old hose though.
I think it won't have been used much over winter so will the hose has probably become brittle and then I've done a long journey and it's been to much. That's what I'm hoping anyway. It split when I was full throttle joining a duel...
Got it home now, just need to get the right hose and possibly get a silicone one as I presume they are better than standard. It's a right bugger to change though. Goes from somewhere around the back of the inlet manifold to the rear of the block, no space to work on it!
When it was working, it...
Cheers for the info, frame rails are definitely something I'm looking at but I'll probably do a couple of trackdays first to try and get an idea of what needs doing most.
Can't wait to pick it up tommorow!
Cheers,
I know the brace across the rear shelf is gone but has been replaced with the roll bar and the front strut brace is gone as it won't fit with the supercharger I think. Will have to look out for the others.
Yeah I did look into 2.5's but I decided against has I was going to be on track a bit. This ones actually quite comfortable inside at the moment, plus the ride on the meisterR coilovers is really good. Much better than my current spax stuff.
Yeah I see what you mean. You can have a 'stage 2' setup installed for less than 2 grand if you provide turbo and injectors. Which isn't bad.
But to get a good condition standard mk1 your looking at 2 grand I'd say.
I must not be one of the kids now I've got a respectable mk1
You'll struggle for a mk1. They appear to be going up in price and you will probably be hard pushed to find a decent boosted one for less than 3k imo.
I've paid just over 3k for that. I'd just keep your eyes peeled on nutz and other places and make sure you get a half decent one.
It's a really nice car, much more classic and subtle than my previous but I'll keep it a long those lines hopefully.
I hadn't really considered Superchargers until now but really enjoyed going out in it today. The noise is and torque is awesome
So as of Sunday, I will have some boost in my life!
Decided I should swap for a mk1 and then build a capable track car, and on Monday this popped up for sale and I snapped it up. Nice spec and good condition body mean it's the perfect start point. Obviously the supercharger is a bonus!
I was up there today and the GT still looked like it had a lot of work going on. I'd be surprised if it's done.
Hopefully you guys have better weather than I did today!
Fair enough. Presumably not a huge hike in power with that.
I've been reading through lots of build threads for last few days and now have a good idea how much work is needed for what I want. Hopefully it'll get towards 180hp in the long run. Things were much simpler before I spoke to Goodj...
