Get 16's? Tyres are cheaper, wheels are cheaper, car handles better, wheels look in better proportion to the car, you dont 'have' to lower it.

Exactly what i was thinking.
Why not get a slower car for a year, rather than pay loads in running costs for a car you wont use to its full capabilities?
If you decide not to claim you keep your no claims. They may charge you having had the car towed/ stored though, depending on which garage it went to.
Wont be a write off fella.
