Cut the ends off and twist the inner and outer bits to each other keeping them separate and see if you get a signal, it's actually a better way than using a coupler.
If there are no spacers it will be that. 100%.

Being a tourist lap, do you expect people on normal roads to pull over for you to pass when you're going marginally quicker sometimes?
