Just going on what I have been told by respected tuning companies. They advised me the inlet mani was not much of an improvement, they also said that 197s do seem to be down on power. What they didnt say was how old the cars they have been working on have been. These could be low mileage...
How long was the K&N on for? If cleaned and re-oiled properly should be fine. Also K&N have an unlimited mileage lifetime warranty, so if its knackered they will replace it.
Think i used 240grit to initially, then used Plastic Filler Primer from halfords, then 1200grit wet, then paint, then 1200grit wet, then lacquer, just need to get the 3000grit now.
I have been told, but not tried yet, wet rub down with 3000grit wet and dry, and then then lots of polishing, will sort out the orange peel look and give a nice smooth finish

bandwidth is how much data can be downloaded from your site, this includes every page etc etc.
197s gain a load of torque mid-range but not heard a claim that big for bhp
EDIT: I lie, i have a graph of 15bhp increse top end and gains of about 20ftlb torque accross the range
