    Phase 1 driveshafts.

Yep, Ive averaged a driveshaft every 1 year for my 4 years of ownership. Certainly not made to last if you like throwing the vehicle about a bit. My last drivers side brand new one (Autodoc from Germany) lasted less than 12 months and my Mechanic got the money back on it, (He showed me a...

HID Kit has to go- new MOT Rules. Now what?

Thought he was being a bit picky as theyve been on the car since i bought i, and he did the last MOT- but will see how easy to change them over. It wont help that the engine bay caught fire as it happens, duing the MOT when doing an emissions test For some reason there is no exhaust heat...

HID Kit has to go- new MOT Rules. Now what?

Was told the rules are new, and he didnt fail them in years gone by Thing is about another tester is that they will see the fail notes from this test Apparently "The lamp source and lamp isnt compatible" 4.1.4. (c) But i like your thinking

HID Kit has to go- new MOT Rules. Now what?

Bought my 172 Phase 1 in October 2016 with the HID (Cheap) kit in place. It worked, so i left it alone Today it failed the MOT as apparently HID has to be OEM and needs washers and the like, or it fails. So thats new So where do i start- need new halogen kit with lampholders i suspect? dipped...

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

Yes, looks like you could be right, (10 months since new!!) but at the moment he hasnt confirmed all is working after replacing gearbox, clutch and Driveshaft He still thinks driveshaft related, but Ive not been made aware he has resolved issue yet, so still not sure...... This is after RAC, and...

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

So, I have now got a used Cup gearbox (129) in the car (Last friday) When the Mechanic took the old box out, clutch needed replacing too. Fair enough, thats done too. He then told me the circlip is fine, so the original box must be damaged elsewhere He then called me this morning, saying...

Got a used Cup JC5-129 going into mine today, from a Clio specialist Mechanic Supplied and fitted Will be interested to see how the gear ratio differences affect the drive Wonder how long it will last, 5k miles will do me of joint track and road use. That will get me to next Belt date and then...

Michelin pilot 4 tyres, any good in the wet ?

Agreed- they are a good tyre (My experience is just roaduse not track) but not sure they are a a panacea, as Adam says They are good both straight and cornering, good wet, but for track use ive not got experience bcos they are then pushed to the limit Certainly worth the money

Michelin pilot 4 tyres, any good in the wet ?

I have PS4s all round on my daily, and theyre fine. Better than most others Ive had, other than the PS3s as it happens- slightly preferred the PS3s PS4s seem pretty good in both rain and dry, other than can be a little noisy i find. Nothin exceptional, just a bit rumbly. I would have them again

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

That is pretty much my plan. A Clio specialist can supply and fit a good used one, so probably ignore doing the clutch and just see how the used gearbox goes. I do about 4000 miles a year, and only want it to last 3 years or so, till i upgrade the car. However, arranging the Transport to the...

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

Good comments-will ask for all mounts to be checked, and what about if the clutch needs changing? I love mine atm as the bite is quite severe- is the VALEO clutch the standard? Reckon my existing is non standard

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

I had a look at both driveshafts, and they were in place and not loose Ive changed 2 x driveshafts so far, with varying degrees of noise, and it doesnt sound like either of them I wish you were right, but feel that it is gearbox Was my original thought within about 2 seconds of the problem happening

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

Taken all comments on board- Yes, DIY would be fair enough. Cost effective, but hard awkward work, for me anyway. Too much hassle methinks. Getting someone else to do it, costs start evolving. Throw in Transporting the Clio outside my Brighton area, and costs start getting prohibitive If I can...

Had a good run- Phase 1 gearbox disintegrated, is it worth repair?

I tend to agree, Could spend £900 getting the clutch and gearbox sorted, for a whole new host problems to show up. Had it 4 years, cut my losses Realise its a gamble, but it seems on a bit of research you can get roadready track cars with roll cages for couple Grand or so ish Throttle body 12...

    Swapping tyres over

Ive never found anyone wanting to do it less than £20 in the last couple years 10 years ago you could get them swapped out for a £5, then went to £10, then online sales of tyres only went through the roof, and cant find anywhere less than £20 nowadays. Majors like Kwikfit, ATS, Halfords usually...
