The Marvell controller is total sh*te, I lost my rag with it after it kept on f**king up the boot order and not knowing what drive to boot from despite it being set correctly in the BIOS.
Mine was around £4500, a fair amount of that was due to the 'no compromise' approach though and and insistance on using the best parts. The first favourite of mine I posted must have cost a lot more.
10mb is what I see over CAT5, so yes large copies do take time, but I'm not using it for streaming, it is purely a backup solution so it's not a problem for me.

You have to be VERY careful which one you buy as people are finding even with identical spec very few memory dimms are working with them and Netgear no longer keep...
I've recently bought the first one linked ( Netgear ReadyNas Duo ), I bought the 2TB version then added a second 2TB, I also changed the fan out for a silent unit and upgraded the memory to 1GB. Unfortunately due to the HDD prices going through the roof you will struggle to go with that option...
