i tried overclocking my C2D last night to 3.0Ghz on stock cooling without increasing the voltages on the CPU/FSB, but the CPU went to 83c and the system shut off. I've ordered better cooling, but I don't know if not increasing the voltages caused the problem. My stock E6600 setup seems to run at...

its just best not to do it to be honest, there is no reason why you can't clean the engine with the same, if not better results by hand.

I personally would never pressure wash an engine, do it all by hand myself.

yes it is the processor holding it back, the rest is HDD read times and something else which score 5.5, then the graphics card scores 5.9, so overclocking to 3GHz may well get the overall score to 5.5, i just need to work out what to do exactly.

that's ok dude, I've just bought one. What have you changed exactly to get it to 3GHz? I want to do the same but don't know what to do and am also unsure if I need to do anything to the memory? (2GB 1066MHz)

well I built my first dual-core system at the weekend and multi-tasking with it is awesome, I can do several things at once without making any effect to the performance. Unfortunately I don't know how much of that is down to the dual-core and how much the 1066MHz memory or top end graphics card...

what are you running it at? I'm told 3GHz is comfortable, I'm planning on going to 3GHz and changing the OEM cooler. But with the 1066MHz memory and £400 graphics card I think that's all I'll need.
