Sounds a lot better when your driving the thing! Adds so much to the driving experience though - it was never going to make a whole lot of difference to the performance, but it adds a lot when you're giving it death! Especially when I don't think I've ever been in anything with ITB's before...
Map still needs a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun already! The noise is so addictive, it's properly difficult to take your foot off the accelerator haha.
Not sure if it's a bit too lean up top - 13.1/13.2 is maybe pushing it a little.. And somehow it's at 12.4ish at cruise - way too rich...
Well if it helps persuade you any more, the itb's all together cost about £400, plus about £450/£500 for an ecu.
So.. I'll just leave that there. Haha!
No reason why you can't chuck a turbo on an itb'd car, but as you say it'd need an airbox and there's literally no room between the brake master cylinder and the fourth trumpet, so you'd have to move things around quite a bit. Also you can get well above what the standard internals can take on...
Throttle cable broke loast night on the motorway, so it hasn't been plain sailing so far... sounds absoutely ballisic though - Love it! Even if it is running like a bag of spanners lol
I've ordered a carb balancer, it'll be tuned using "itb mode" which is MAP based below a certain pressure then TPS based for the rest of the map. At the moment it's completely TPS based and it's fine on wide throttle openings, but for stuff like idle and cruise it's absolutely guff!
Yeah I know it's not really going to be any quicker, but I've got tired of waiting around for Sturovo to start taking orders again - need something to tinker with!
And as above, it's all about the noise!
Went to a fellow MX5Nutz members house tonight to drop off a hardtop... 1JZ MX5 anyone...
Maybe! I don't know, I've not used the RS-R's in months. Only thing I could think is difference in size? My nangkangs are 195 and the federals are 205 - maybe too wide/too squidgy? Who knows!
Nice to see it still going strong though!
Interesting you found the federals better than the Nangkangs, I need to get mine properly scrubbed in so I can compare them better! I found the NS2-R's to be better but I think my RS-R's need more miles on them!
Just be aware you'll get a lot of vibration/noise with the DS2500's when they're up to temp. Feels weird at first! Good effort on doing it properly though.
It only took a day to switch both engines, and that wasn't really rushing. Annoyingly the main reason behind the swap was the recent maintenance that the silver car had: New cambelt water pump etc. certainly didn't expect to be having to replace that lot so soon! The silver car also had an ultra...
So just to keep this going, I found the cause of my breakdown... A nut in the coolant.
Don't know how it got there, but it completely ruined the water pump!
With that swapped out, it's been fine. Makes a bit of a weird noise at about 3250rpm but I think I'm going to put it down to the...
Well, it was all going quite nicely. Got the engine going, full of fluids, 6 speed working fine... Then it started steaming. Turned out a small coolant line coming off the thermostat housing had been cut up by the water pump pulley. Not an issue, I've got a spare, pop that on, cable tie it out...
Had a passenger ride in a coupe a few weeks back, the speed is just mental. And the way they go around corners, seemingly endless amounts of grip. Awesome choice! Best colour too.
Bought a new radio for it, not the prettiest thing ever, but it sounds great and it's a steal at £70 from halfords! Bluetooth, mp3 etc. Spot on!

I kind of agree there, just a shame the silver car is was more rotten! Plus the blue's a nicer colour IMO!
Not sure about the brakes yet, need to get it out on a track again and see how I get on. For road use they've been absolutely fine just using standard discs and pads but it might be another...
Thanks chaps!
Yesterday was a long one. I've had the silver car sitting on my drive for a while now with a really healthy engine - lightened flywheel, new cambelt, water pump, removed A/C, fresh gaskets etc so decided to swap them over and at the same time get the six speed in the blue car...
