Not a huge update, it's quite a bit better with the diff swapped out. Still not perfect, but it's much better! Went out for a blast yesterday and took the roof off it for the first time in ages. One thing about running solid roof mounts is that you can't put the soft top up at all. It's...
Well, it wasn't the giant nut. So out came the diff and in went the one from my silver car. All sorted now. Took my weekend up though annoyingly.
Old one removed
New one ready to go
Back in and braced up. Managed to fix an exhaust leak too while I was at it.
Great success.
Hit a slight snag this weekend. Was due to remove the engine and gearbox out of my silver car to attach to the 6 speed ready to put into the blue car (it's had a load of maintenance work recently - belts, waterpump, flywheel, clutch etc). Unfortunately I got off to a bad start when the blue car...
£300 collected from Oldham! In good condition - not seized or anything like that, paint on the springs has gone and they could do with new dust boots probably.
You could probably do it on the cheap for just over a grand using second hand parts and stuff. Only thing second hand on mine will be the turbo and the ecu is around 6 months old. Everything else will be new, intercooler, injectors, manifold, clutch etc.
Mani, downpipe, oil and coolant fittings will be supplied by Sturovo off mx5nutz when he gets back from working away.
Wasn't he meant to have his finished a while ago? Fair play though, will make future trackdays a bit more interesting! Getting overtaken lap after lap gets dull quick!
Cheers Jon! None planned for now, just concentrating on getting everything sorted currently, like I say might be towards winter again when it's cheap! Spending all this money on turbo bits means sacrificing track time unfortunately!
Thanks mate!
I've got a TD04L off an Impreza, hoping to have it all ready by the end of summer (though it depends on the guy making the exhaust manifold) so fingers crossed should be able to squeeze a trackday in either at the end of this year or beginning of next year depending on work etc...
Not much has happened recently, I've added frame rails, chopped the rear bumper and that's about it. I've bought a 6 speed, so that'll go on sometime soon, still collecting turbo parts, going to be another couple of months yet... Gave it a quick wash last night and took a few snaps, doesn't...
Not necessarily in outright power (I mean you can lock up fairly easily with stock 1.8 brakes anyway) but they're a lot easier to modulate and they simply don't fade, whereas I found the stock brakes start to feel tired after a good few hard laps around Oulton - and I'm running standard power...
I'll update this as its coming nicely up to mx5 season. Quite a lot has changed...
I started out by buying 205/50/15 595RSR's from tyre leader (surprisingly good value)
Went for a blast one night on the cat and fiddle with @sofaboy and this somehow ended up with me buying his mx5...
If you can justify to yourself buying wilwoods, I would. Thinking of doing any track time? I had stock 1.8 brakes with axxis ultimate pads and they were excellent on my last track outing, but if I were going any quicker (more power) I'd like the reassurance that wilwoods give.
Is it a coolant hose for the heater - one that goes through the firewall? They're a really common issue as oil tends to leak from the back of the engine out of the cam angle sensor (worth checking if you've got a leak there) or cam cover; oil gets on the hose and it degrades over time. Not...
200SX isn't as cheap or reliable. And probably more rust prone.
It was mainly for over winter - the hardtop latches were goosed, so for £50 they were worth a shot. Will be re-trimming my old soft top for summer time, do miss having the roof down!
If you want braces, the only ones worth having are the P5 frame rails, and maybe a Beatrush PPF brace if you don't mind increased NVH. They make serious improvements. Those added to a TRLane roll bar and it'll be stiffened up ten fold. I've got a perma-mounted hardtop which also helps, but to be...
Gave it a quick wash today and this issue that I've kept noticing for a while has popped up again. It's a really nice dark blue colour (called satellite blue mica) and when the sun shines on it the passenger side reflects really deep purple, the rest of the car just stays blue when the suns on...
Well I bought it standard nearly a year ago, it was v.expensive and at the other end of the country (manchester to Colechester...) seems like they're getting hard to come by nice ones now!
Not after massive power tbh. I've had fast cars before; this feels plenty for the road - maybe a little...
Yeah, other than an ECU it'll cost about £250, so why not! Off a GSXR750, slightly better size for inlet manifold spacing. Will get those on once I've sorted out some decent tyres!
