yup, but its weird its going out that fast, normally a head gasket will leak from a water jacket to an oil way, or into a cylinder, but not that common for it to be a big enough crack to be able to see the water disapearing is quite weird
thats it if you have a coolant leak, it would overheat, though if it has spilt all its coolant the gauage might not have shown it being hot as there would be no water to reg as being hot. Best thing to do is get it towed to a garage, or fill it up wit hwater and run it and see what its like
do you do many short trips mate? the mayo can come from condensation from short trips
the best thing is get your local garage to pressure test it, nice easy job to show any leaks

if its been looked after is will be fine, just remember its a 15 year old car, so it WILL need some things doing to it.
Though the cups a kinda new age willy so id prob keep the cup
My 10ps worth, just for the hell of it :)
Iv done 30k in my ph1, and my mate has a 182 non cup, but with both cup packs, that iv done a fair few miles in, so on these two here's my opinion:
The 182 rides better. it feels more comfy, and it does feel alot lighter on the steering. The higher...
correct the XR4I'S are 2.8, supposed to make 150 bhp but never seem to, usually around 140 bhp
the early XR4x4's were 2.8 also, the 2.9 came in in 1987, and on average make between 150-160 bhp with 160+ torque to match
