I do agree with this, people should not be forced to use a cover or have to hold a phone in a specific way without one. It is a huge design error by Apple.

I have admitted to the problem and even posted photos here to demonstrate it. Fortunately I use it in a case so am not having any problems during day to day use. For you to claim it is not a phone is equally laughable and also factually incorrect.

For a media device it's allowed me to make many trouble free phonecalls. Odd.

My phone is always stored in a pocket away from everything else. Battery life has been exceptional so far and I'm making heavy use of the internet most days too.

Cancom do not actually have stock of this despite advertising that it's available for next day delivery. Order cancelled and placed with Amazon instead.

Make the appointment with Apple, visit the genius with your laptop and show them what's going wrong when you update. Don't use o2 for repairs because they are s**t.

The same thing happened to me on o2 this morning, no bars but the internet continued to work on the iPhone. Activate then disable airplane mode, worked for me.

It should automatically bookmark to the home screen with that icon.
