I have read good things about the 2x with the 70-200 MkII, especially stopped down to f5.6 so it seems like the cheapest way to get something long.
I also toyed with the idea of getting a long prime, but I don't think that I would get much use from it. The 100-400 is also a nice lens, but I am...
I just got my misses a Canon Ixus 130. Put it on full auto and forget about having to think for a shot. It takes great pics for a compact. Its tiny and light too.
Yep, the downside of the 5DII is that the 200 is even shorter. It is actually why I sold my old 70-200 f4, as I thought I would get the 100-400 instead.
The flexibility of the 70-200 f2.8 and 2x extender will be of more use to me than the 100-400 in the long run I think.
The Sigma 200-500...
I went to the zoo in Rotterdam with my two boys for fathers day and took the camera along. It was actually amazing how many people had DSLR's there, and it almost seemed to be a 50/50 split with compacts!
I used the 70-200 most of the time, but 200mm was too short so most of these have been...
Really like these, I spotted them on your stream earlier.
I know what you mean about the 200mm being a bit short at times. After todays trip to the zoo, I am now sold on getting a 2x externder as I had to do some major cropping.
Did you go in there with permission or just find an open door?
Lovely shots, exactly the sort of place I used to dream of nosing around as a boy... and still today actually.
It pains me to say it, but they are fairly good results. The full size images may not be pretty to look at, but you definitely have some usable shots.
Look forward to the car ones.
No regrets so far?
I think different rules apply to Journos (and yourself). I don't mind if I am at an event and I see a pro point his camera in my kids direction, you know that the pics will either be used in a paper somewhere or end up binned. Either way, there are no ill intentions.
The random old guy threw...
Yes, really as dodgy as it sounds.
I was out with my two boys (1 & 3 yrs) and put them on a merry go round. My wife was with them and an oldish guy went up and took a photo of them. He was using a P&S so was clearly not a journo so my wife asked what he was up to. He said "They looked nice"...
It looks a bit like the old DSC F717's! I always wanted one of those but could only stretch to the DSC-V1.
I have just looked through the full size shots on your photosteam and they are surprisingly good. It would be interesting to see some direct comparison shots between the 1D and this if...
Love them. I really like that one of the Queen too!
Your shots of the parade stand out as different due to the narrow DOF, most of the time the media shots you see are all in focus. I prefer your view on it.

Comments was also the apple. Most surprising is the camera bag and the others that go with it. Yahoo regularly points to it...
That sounds good actually. The ones with no backbox sound like tractors most of the time, I much prefer yours.
I toyed with the idea of doing mine, but I am sat in the car an hour a day and it would drive me nuts in the long run I reckon.
