How much is the 500D/ D90? They are not full HD but are still pretty good.
I have a 5DII and the video quality blows me away. The size of the sensor means that it is head and shoulders above nearly all HD (consumer) camcorders on the market in terms of image quality. That is where it stops...
Gutted, hope that you can salvage most of it and get the thing back up and running without too much hassle.
It is a legal requirement to have one in your car over here. I've had to use it once and was damn glad that I had it.

Nice write up. I'd be interested to see some full size photos taken from the 500 and this side by side to see how they compare (high ISO etc).
That pancake lens looks odd!
As said, it is the size of the sensor that matters more than the MP count. Unless you are doing billboard size photos, then anything more than 10 is overkill really. Although it is useful for cropping afterwards.
The glass on SLR's also makes a huge difference over the stuff on a POS.

^^ lol. Nice sharp shots, you could change the composition of some of them to make them more balanced/ appealing to the eye. Have a google on the rule of thirds, it'll change how you look through your viewfinder for good. :)
I was watching some of this the other weekend. There was one guy with three turbines for engines. It's like something out of wacky races.
