Decided to do some more tinkering and digging around. Opted to buy myself some kit that allows me to bench flash and obd flash many ecus, but also the dc4 getrag TCU!
If you remember I had my original TCU fail, bought a Chinese supplied item but it didn't work correctly and i was told it had...
About a week ago, the car threw a gearbox warning fault (could be tied to the emissions issue/fault in the above video though mpg has improved)

the last f4rt I built up I used parts from engine dynamics (try TurboRenault as a discount code)
Id leave the oil pump and mains, I've also used second hand rod bolts with no issues. Plasti gauge is good for checking clearances (y), stock new head bolts were fine for the thicker HG too
Threw some wax on today just to assist for a while, it'll do(y) nothing much else left to do other than drive it for now. Then look to finally start the turbo engine build, all being well by the end of this month
I didn't realise how faded the paint work was, it has been way too long since I've cleaned it. Started with a rinse off at the local car wash then busted out the polisher. Comes up well considering the age, need to get something on there to try and keep it looking like that for longer, any...
i think there are a varying level of faults in these, all heat or age related.
Capacitor didn't work for myself and neither did the import tcu, that said it might be perfect but just needs the correct data flashing on it. May look into this for the future when my replacement TCU eventually fails
Didn't work for me, had the incorrect firmware, I threw my toys out of the pram and fitted a tcu from a breaker. Working fine now. Pretty sure you remove 6 screws and the top pcb board pulls off the bottom one.
So after nearly 8 weeks away its back on the driveway. I've not started refitting the interior yet but have cracked on with the headlights and indicators. I did originally put yellow tint on the new larger units but decided to remove them as I did a curse word job at the edges. Cars looking...
Jim's been giving me regular updates, I was passing today so popped in to drop some parts off and take a look at the progress. All being well I may get it back by the end of the week, Excited and very pleased with the work on the rusty 8, should give it a few more years of life for sure
Haven't updated this much as I've had a shite recovery with further complications but have had the odd picture update
Lots of metal removed, more that could be seen but expected, and some replacement panels made up
no, a little more. 250 rods and pistons, 1.9mm gasket, 172 inlet and exhaust cams, 19t hybrid turbo, meg 250 injectors and map sensors. Exhaust cam was a bit spicy for the stock megane exhaust manifold and rear housing. This was stuffed into a twingo with a diesel gearbox, was spicy on the road.
I'm not sure where id go with this, if I wasn't pulling the head id try set of meg or 1*2 sticks in there to rule out a cam issue.
Curious if something is going on with the the valves still, maybe a sealing issue after you have mentioned them being modified to fit the head.
Really hope you get...
A while back I timed 60-100 on the hybrid turbo, totally forgot I had a draggy tbh but popped it on on the way home from work today, not tried it hard but just a few pulls. Now considering the power hasn't increased just the spread of it, it shows. Not dropping out of spool I guess? 0.74 seconds...
your millage isn't really massive, my own is on 117k miles, tuned and I'm not concerned, only major issue being a replaced TCU. There are cars here going past 200k miles.
Could be a dying battery? its defo worth getting a proper diag done.
should be a lot cheaper than 3k for the tcu too, can fit it in less than an hour.
If the rest of the car is going strong I don't see why not?
Small changes for increased efficiency. I've been watching inlet temps for a while now, and mentally logging external vs intake temps (usually between 10 and 13 deg different) Now the location of a fmic on these is blocked a lot by the number plate and plinth. Id already modded the plinth and on...
