I have the 70-200 f4L and a 300 f4L IS and a 1.4 Extender which cover the long range for me. I am in the same boat as you in the fact that a need a decent wide angle lens now.
I have a Canon 28-105 lens as a walkabout but it lacks wideness on the 350.

White dust means your using too much product. Small 5 pence sized blob on a foam hand pad should do a door. Work it till there is little or nothing to remove and then wipe with a cloth. Applying a layer to the paint so you can see it does nothing but waste product - any excess you buff of that...
