TBH, I don't think they're much faster at all.
That vid you posted of your MBP compared to my iMac is negligible. Yeah, yours is faster but it's not by much.
Definitely do that.
I think taking it apart probably isn't that difficult but getting it back together without any dust in it will be nigh on impossible. At least if you spot some dust you can take it back and ask them to fix it.

You might need to be on campus using the wifi to get it. That's no big deal.

There's bound to be a Mac specialist near you that will do it for you. Probably not an actual Apple Store but a certified one.

You can do the HD/RAM yourself. The processor, you're going to get the best anyway.
You'll want to replace it with an iMac i92 running Simba long before it gets slow.
It depends on what power you set the flash to. It won't be able to fire at full power every shot.
Try it on the lowest power, shoot at 200th/sec and wait a few seconds between shots and then I'd imagine it will fire every go.
They're a nightmare because you spend a lot of money for very little gain.
Depends how much you're intending to spend and how serious you are.
Throttle bodies is probably the best plan per pound.
There's nothing close to the iPad. Nothing at all.
Things are getting closer but the others (Playbook and Android things) just don't have the software or apps to be able to compete.
