No. I run mine with only a few wires coming out for communication with the dash and am relocating it to within the dash. You'll fail and MOT if the airbag light doesn't come on, check, and then go out.

is the belt routed the right way? I know that sounds obvious but easily done wrong. Belts do need to be fairly tight though.

what exhaust have you got on it and has it got a 182 manifold? If it's a 182 manifold you might struggle a little more, have to get something custom or put back on the original set up. More info needed!!!!!

Don't worry chap. I spent a while with a multi meter working out what each pin does. Got an external temperature reading going into the climate control now so the temperature function correctly adjusts the mixing flap.

What have you tried so far so we can rule a few things out. My checks would be relay and gearbox earth.

Lambda will be constant eml. Injector is likely if it's flashing. Unfortunately you have to wait for it to get rather bad before it throws a code.
