Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
Yeah, I think that was the version where I had all the problems with the messages application, it was crashing all the time.
B5 introduced a problem with the font alignment in the sms edit box, but thankfully they fixed that...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
Not noticed that personally in the GM. Some of the betas were rather ropey, but all the issues I had with the betas have been solved.
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
Seriously, it's not that exciting! lol
MMS is useful and cut and paste, is well, there. (I've not actually used it other than to try it). SMS forwarding is more useful.
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
It's what was released to manufacture, so it'll be on all new 3G and 3GS hardware coming out of the factory now.
Unless there was some horrific problem with it (which would obviously affect all 3GS currently waiting to be...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
The official release won't happen until after 9am california time, it has a worldwide simultaneous release so that is why some of the apple sites are giving different dates because of the timezones.
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
The 3G S is shipping with the GM build.
Oh and just saw this too: http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/paymonth.html
Depending on your monthly spend, you can upgrade to the 3G S early.
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
All apps have the ability to do that currently, the app that requests it will be suspended while the call is handled. (and of course a box pops up asking you if you want to make the call - to stop apps auto-dialling)
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
On a related note, from the Navigon press release:
"If navigation is interrupted by a telephone call then navigation is resumed automatically after the call has ended."
Now, if Apple have given TomTom special privileges then it'd...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
Link?
Handling a call could be interpreted as "Suspending the application" and then "Returning to the application" once the call has finished, apple already provides delegates to do this. (As Tom pointed out above)
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
The API's google have been using are neither here nor there, nothing spectacular.
What TomTom need to do is something which Apple have already said is bad, background processess are a big no-no, I can't imagine them saying...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
No third party background processes.
No API in the SDK for handling the "in-call" situation.
Unless Apple have given TomTom special dispensation and a special SDK (which is highly unlikely) then the TomTom app will be suspended once...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
I'd be all over TomTom on the iPhone if it continued to navigate when a call came in, but it won't, so it's usefulness is limited.
You can guarantee that just as you come to a set of junctions, somebody will call you.
Re: iphone appstore must haves?
I wouldn't hold my breath for an official MSN client. This would require the MSN servers to support a keep-alive (i.e log me in and don't log me out until I tell you that I want to log out) and support for pushing messages, I can't really see MS having any...
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
You see who left you messages in a list, you just click on the message to play it.
No more "First message received on...Press 1 for next message, Press 3 to delete... etc
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
Visual voicemail rocks.
During the beta period mine pretty much just stopped working, using "olde stylee" voicemail just sucks ass, big style.
Re: iphone appstore must haves?
I only installed it this morning when I found the invite in my inbox, I will have a play with it later on tonight.
I didn't expect the redemption code to work as the last one (the AP app)was only for the US, but was surprised when it worked this time around.
Nope, they've built it in on the new model and therefore increased the amount of volume for actual battery (rather than battery enclosure) and that's had an increase on battery runtime.
Re: iPhone Software 3.0 - Out 17/6 & iPhone 3GS - Out 19/6
If you lose your phone and subscribe to mobileme, then you can locate your phone on a map, send a message (with optional sound) to ask somebody to return it and also the ability to remote wipe it.
Oh yes. I love it when people go on about it being massive, maybe the "haterz" all have hands the size of children because for me, it's just about perfect.
Nothing comes within a light year of the development tools either which doesn't mean a lot to the end user, but to developers it's a big...
