I used to do this when I left school working for Fleet Factors. It’s surprisingly easy to do as long as you have a vice, pipe, fittings and swaging kit. There’s a video on car building solutions which explains the process. You’ll also need to shape the pipe and there’s a tool for that as well.
I tend to limit the amount of copper slip where I can because there’s lots of evidence that copper based anti-seize compounds can cause galvanic (bimetallic) corrosion, particularly involving stainless steel or galvanised fasteners. Basically it dries out exposing it to water, which in turn aids...
This is why I try and do everything myself.
So after I had my geo set up at work, I took the car over to Tyrespot in Darlington.
Unfortunately the guy I was going to use came down with Covid so I reluctantly took the car to them. I say reluctantly because I’ve had issues with them in the past...
ACF-50 is really good - as above - needs regular applications. I also use Bilt Hamber Atom Mac - https://bilthamber.com/product/atom-mac/ Great for brake discs before a steam wash. Just spray it everywhere, small bottle lasts a decent amount of time.
Yeah I think it’s the angle.
Here’s a side shot I took on my potato coming out of work.
I think the fact yours are more factory colour helps too. I tried to be a clever arse and go for shiny. Doesn’t work. Glad I didn’t sell my Turini’s 😂
Good shout Mark. It’s on Eibach Prolines which aren’t too dissimilar from Cup springs. Really trying to stay as close to OEM. Couldn’t bear bouncy lowering springs on it.
Honestly i bought it in August last year, did 15 miles taking it back and forward from storage, then on Sunday i did about 50 miles to make sure nothing fell off. I've never revved it past 5,000 rpm.
It's in our workshop getting the GEO done and told the lad doing the job i'd be watching him...
Spare seat belts sent off to Kolour Koncept this morning for Re-Webbing. Big thanks to @David Stuart and @DavidDave for helping me out with these.
Honestly i'd be screwed without the help of some of the good people in this forum 👏👏
I was tempted to go for a different colour but i'm sticking...
It was great to finally get out in the RB yesterday after a long winters restoration. Luckily nothing fell off.
Looking forward now to getting her in the bodyshop to sort some niggles, then off for a proper clean and detail.
Did you powder coat it yourself then? I agree the finish is good but the first beam I got powder coated rusted after 3 months.
I don’t think many commercial companies like to faff about treating the rust prior to application. So ultimately they just powder coat over rusty steel and you’re back...
I had the missus with me so was on my best behaviour. But yes, the car was really lovely to drive. The amount of people that waved to me and commented on it was weird too. I think it’s the colour
Drive out across the North Yorkshire moors today. Car was faultless and lovely to drive. The BG is feral compared to this. All the hard work certainly paid off.
My tyre guy came down with Covid so I couldn’t switch the wheels over. So instead I whipped the wheels off the BG to try the 195/45/16’s. So much better to drive than the 205/45/16 tyres imho so that’s the route I’m going to take.
Gave under the bonnet a good clean then put the bonnet cover...
A couple of annoying jobs today after the MOT last week.
first one was to change the NSF driveshaft after one of our techies spotted a tiny leak when checking the car over on a ramp.
This was a refurbished one from Shaftec who kindly sent me another one out under warranty. I did think at the...
I bought one of these from Renault for the BG - https://renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/parts/cooling-heating-parts/renault-clio-expansion-bottle-mk2/ Paid £55 for it after discount. Old cap doesn't fit.
Then bought another for my RB but from Ebay -...
No mechanical updates other than to say the guy who bought my Racecar has broken it already 😂 and my BG daily is still going strong after 5 years of all season ownership.
She's been a cow at times, especially in the early days when i didn't have a clue on how to sort her out, but she's been...
