Another day of building everything back up and fixing a few issues along the way.
First job was to fill the cavities with Dynax-S50. Doddle to do but its messy stuff if you’re not careful.
Finished up by resealing with heat tape.
Next up was to repair the stud which holds the rear inner...
2 solid days attacking underneath the rear. Not a lot of corrosion, which I noticed on inspection before I bought it, but it’s still a relief when you start to take things apart.
Apologies for the photos as there’s either light coming in from the east, or behind the house or from the west...
Yeah could be a combo of all the above but I wouldn’t recommend standard Brembo though. I’d definitely go DS2500. Seems to be the go to for most track/race Clio’s that I’ve seen
Doing a mild restoration on my Clio 182 and the 2 rear heat shields are shot. NLA so half tempted to make them or find somebody with far better skills than me to make some.
Is there a person or company on here that does such a thing?
A few hours today wrestling with the rear beam. Finally got it out and it’s not in bad shape.
Managed to get a good look around underneath and there’s not a massive amount to do, although the heat shields have seen better days.
I’ve now started the cleaning process which will be a few days...
Finally made a start on the RB. Off all next week so hoping to get the beam switched over and then give the back end a good clean, cavity wax and underseal.
It’s definitely the last one I’m doing though 🙈
And I live near the coast. High salinity environments can and do effect chromium oxides. Especially if the layer is compromised during fitment - likely in my scenario hence the added protection.
Definitely stainless and the nuts look the same. Can’t comment on the welding. Reality is they rust around that area 🤷🏻♂️ I’ll post some pics up of mine later. I’m hoping the extra protection helps.
And it’s not a criticism of the product. This is my second set. When you compare to what’s out...
Picked up a set of @Tomotek excellent exhaust hanger mounts. Really high quality and great value.
Probably better for motorsport applications where cars are generally kept dry and clean, as opposed to a daily due to the welds on the nuts making them susceptible to corrosion.
I have a set...
Found some old exhaust brackets which I’m going to get aqua blasted and then fit some Powerflex bushes.
Now I always laugh when I read people saying it’s impossible to get the old rubbers out. And am astonished to see some examples being hacked with saws, Stanley blades etc.
The job is...
I could be wrong. Seen cars go for what I’d consider crazy money.
All you can do is put yours up for a price you feel it’s worth and let the market decide. Still quite a few scrappers around and the traders are still lurking in the shadows looking for a bargain.
If we weren’t on the cusp of a...
Fitted the Powerflex bushes to the refurbished beam. An absolute doddle.
I run a dremel with a light sanding disc to remove any excess paint.
The outer sleeve goes in from the inside of the beam.
A few taps with a mallet and a block of hardwood and it’s in. There’s a small lip on the outer...
With that mileage what are you going to do with it?
Sit on it and hope you make a return in a marketplace so unpredictable at the moment. Used car prices are at an all-time high because of a shortage of new cars, but that bubble will slowly deflate rather than burst by next year. I'm sure all...
4 years ago today I took this picture of a tired and sad old car when I went to collect her. I knew nothing about them and didn’t really care as I had a long term plan for her.
109,000 on the clock at the time, now on 131,000 and looking how she should
She’s been a puzzle and caused me a...
🛎🛎Ding, ding, round 1 🛎🛎
Dug my old Xenons out, my god, they’re rough. I remember carrying these around with me on trackdays in case the TDO didn’t like my headlight blanks
I had to cut really hard into these and it’s caused me some headaches, but I’ll get there.
Still tons of scratches but...
Are you stalking me or what 😂😂😂
Technically that is correct as the one I was offered was lowered, had silly canards, carbon etc.
This one is almost original, low owners, lots of history, very clean and straight. Plus I changed my mind 😂
Got the hubs for the rear beam sorted. I've also had a few messages about the type of paint i'm using, how i prepare things, whether i'd recommend etc...
I'm not an expert at this by any stretch, just a hobbyist restorer who's making mistakes as he goes along and learning through experience...
