Looking good! Head looks absolutely spotless!
Mind linking me to the copper gasket? Did yours blow from there before? I'm doing a very similar build at the moment and want to avoid all the teething problems as much as possible. Already got inconel studs, heico washers and knuts but your gasket...
Thought I'd update this. I did an LED dash conversion on the dci using bazillions of SMDs. The radio has a bad connection on one pad and as the buttons are lit up in series they now won't illuminate. I'll sort it when I get a chance but even without that the interior is a million times better...
Ah yeah now we're talking. Did you do the hone yourself dude or get it done on at the shop? You putting in 197 or cat cam springs in? Not that they're needed but they can reduce float, particularly the cat cam ones but the more cost effective 197 ones too.
Nice to see this just being done so...
Nice to do something different to what everyone else does. Watch for ringland issues with the pistons as winding in too much boost to them is fatal.
This build really goes to show that a turbo conversion can be reliable if it’s assembled with care. Looking forward to seeing the work done. Are...
Due to the use of an OMEX with the throttle body kit several dash lights had been removed. They've all be re-soldered in and systems like ESP and unnecessary airbags will be programmed out using CLIP. Whilst it's all apart an LED dash conversion has been carried out to make all LEDs white and...
Mart's hit the nail on the head when he says we're doing this to an extremely high standard. Everything has been researched to an inch of it's life to make sure it's going to be perfect when done. The majority of what's going on in the engine bay has been recorded so we're hoping to put out an...
Yeah man I can’t wait!
Yours will always be better than mine ? it’s going to be a super long build taking any spare change I make from the last couple of breakers.
Fear not! The insta stuff is a nice and quick way to show what we’re up to but there will always be a project thread to go along...
What's going on here then?
This is more an update for update sake but there is a lot of change coming in the garage. I forgot to mention in my last post that I'd done the previous 3 trackdays with an overdue cambelt! Go me. After beating on the cup so hard over the past few years it needs a...
You can't test the alarm with a CLIP because it's not wired into the can network. There are two types of alarm, those with a battery and those without.
When the car is running do you still have all these issues? CLIP will allow you to diagnose the climate control. Look for a sensor which is...
That sounds reasonable to me. The only benefit of using one which fits on the terminal directly is that you don't have to make up a patch wire to go between the terminal and cut off. If using a cut off make sure you get battery teminal boots to cover the connections. I've got a crimp tool if you...
I wouldn't worry too much Tom, Mart has a small battery fitted and it lasts for a decent amount of time.
Do you want to run the cut off switch so it can be killed when the engine is running or just to disconnect the battery when not moving? FIA switch for the first, wired up properly with a...
Thats exactly why it's worth doing. If you look at the kind of cars around for just over a grand that do this kind of MPG they are all woofers, abused and in need of a lot of work.
Don't see that as a barrier. The Gates cambelt kit comes with fantastic instructions which make it fool proof...
I think I had a laser set and it was fine. After a few uses I bent the crank pin but at £10 a go I can't really complain.
Water pump is a bit of a faff with the engine in the car so I wouldn't bother unless it's giving you grief.
This is my list. Only buy new or refurbished (by a huge well known company like PF Jones) injectors and pumps. Used are a mine field and can cost you more than you bargained for, I speak from when I bought a used pump and brand new injectors and the pump was knackered. You'd be replacing the...
I’m at this point with our rep, I’m repairing it and taking a 10 year view on using it as a car which is pretty much brand new afterwards. £850 for parts including clutch, belts, fluids and everything’s to get the job done right. The work isn’t actually that bad, little more than a cambelt...
They're good. Know a few people that have had them. The turbos aren't hit and miss, they're a good long standing supplier of theirs and it's the best conversion on the market.
I would give this a go matey. It's the EEPROM chip they need to duplicate

I struck lucky a while back and found a virgin one on ebay for £50 but...
Pop the top of the steering wheel cowl off by pulling at the soft bits where the stalks are. And you’ll see 2 t20s
Behind the dash trims there are 4 additional t20s
There are three in the front demister vent
Finally are two slightly bigger but plastic ones on the sides.
You need to remove the a...
take the top dash off then it's 2 x 509t bulbs
there's a guide on youtube/here which explains how to get the dash top off. It takes about 5-10 minutes. Sounds worse than it is!
If the battery doesn’t resolve your flickering light issue check the pulley on the alternator, the dampener goes in them occasionally and the pulley just spins without turning the alternator. You’ll smell it if that’s happening though!
The rear beam on a non-sport is not the weak link. It's the front suspension set up being so different to the sports. The rear is pretty much the same track if not the same. Sort the front out and then worry about the back.
shamelessly going to promote my channel :)
Thanks Austin :) this is my second dci rep now so it was a no brainer from me as soon as I lay hands on it, especially as most of the parts were free. It needs heart surgery though as it's got quite a few issues with the fuel system, it's running very lumpy, smokes too much and a turbo blowing...
Just gave you a follow on insta. Came back here to refresh myself on this awesome project and found out there isn't much else to do to this now, it's pretty darn perfect.
I had no idea you'd got this! Yes, another Dci owner! Need to do my glow plugs after seeing that.
The cambelt is a very simple job, takes about 3 hours even if you haven't done it before and the tools are less than £10.
Of course I know all about cruise control! Fitted it to three DCis now...
