I don't think cut outs suit the ph1 bumper tho, and if i do eventually opt to change for a ph2 bumper, they sit a little lower and will probably need a cutout to allow the exhaust to fit properly. I don't want to cut the ph1 bumper and have the exhaust sitting to high that it would look...
When i first talked to the lads up there i had a round backbox silencer with a 3" outward rolled pipe in mind, kinda like the yozzasport race system, but they said it would be very loud without a silencer and i might have clearance issues?
Ok lads, was planning on getting a ktec stealth for the 172 but unfortunately after a trackday last monday my OEM exhaust has gotten progressively worse and now its at the point where its pure embarrassing to drive (not bad considering it lasted almost 9 years), and now i need an exhaust asap...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
123.30 for all the tools? Thats not bad at all!
Have you got the exact part numbers for them by any chance? I've rang renault Ireland trying to get them and they keep telling me they don't supply tools anymore:cry:
Well if i was to sell the 172 for 5k, i have found a clean blue mk1 16v over here that i could probably have for 2k, and its already on irish plates which is a bonus. That would leave me with 3k pocket money, 1k of which would be going into brand new 172 wishbones, driveshafts, bearings, discs...
right so its fairly even haha
how are the valvers on petrol?
and are valver replacement and service parts expensive, or is it just that you need to replace them more often?
Right has anyone here owned both for a long enough period of time? And i'm looking for an un-biased answer to these questions
Which car would handle better? A 172 or valver with williams widetrack?
Which car is easier to live with?
Which car is cheaper to run and maintain?
Which feels more...
cheers guys, appreciate all the info and guidance. i've been looking around over here and on pistonheads, and it's proving to be quite difficult to find a cleanish valver with no signs of rust, and a williams is out of the question as insurance is too costly, as much as i would love one.
i...

Finally got my act together and sent the other 2 alloys up to the engineering place to have them straightened. And while they were off i went about fitting my new brembo HC discs and ferodo DS2500's, a handy enough job bar trying to get the old discs off which were as good as welded to...
Cheers for the guidance lads, i suppose its something i'll have to think long and hard about
had a vts, and a 106 gti, they're too small and feel like little toy cars now, i couldn't go back to driving one of them now
Right I'm in a bit of a confused state right now lads, and could do with some input/guidance...
I'm currently driving this..
Bought it standard for 3000 euro, and have since done the following..
Full set of toyo px4's
Had all 4 wheels straightened
Painted wheels satin black
Painted brakes...
would i be right in saying you'd be better off getting the standard rods shot-peened and making sure everything is perfectly balanced rather than getting forged rods?
I take it, by looking at your other threads, that you've done suspension, brakes and tyres already?
How about an RS tuner or remap to take full advantage of the new exhaust?
Or vibratechnic engine mounts?
failing that i would spend the 300 on driver training courses, i done one and it...
There would be no need for a lightweight flywheel or group n clutch kit on a road car, or even track car. If you were building a full on race car or high boost turbo clio, then i would consider 250 and 325 plus vat for the flywheel and clutch kit respectively. It could be the guts of almost 700...
Remap...great upgrade for the clio's, smoothed out power and torgue curves, gives a small power boost, and higher rev limit
Exhaust and sports cat...IMO a great upgrade for any car, although I would go for a decat due to price, and just swap it come MOT time, will improve power and torque...
you must have read this in the latest performance french car magazine?
They say that people often fit williams widetrack to 172's to improve handling, i guess they meant to say it the other way round?
...as to why i SHOULDN'T buy a ktec mild steel stealth catback and unsilenced decat:eek:
I want a new exhaust thats louder than the OEM exhaust, but won't annoy me on the motorways, gives a nice rasp when pushing it, and also that won't cost a fortune.
Rust isn't an issue as the roads over...
yeah f7p (valver) and f7r (williams), need the bottom bracket, PAS pump and tensioner bracket and upper bracket.
hope to have them soon so i can fit them next week
You looking to do this to your car yeah?
After a fair bit of research, and questioning matteh, i found out that you can use the brackets from a f7p/r engine, keep the 172 alternator and PAS pump, and do away with the aircon.
Waiting on the set of brackets i bought off f0xy to arrive so i can...
