Yes, they can split. I'd first check the nut on the engine mount hasn't loosened as this is common.

Im not sure! Maybe pull the hose close to it and try. Costs nothing

Eggy smell is usually from mixing washer fluid. Wouldn't be suprised if the hoses are blocked. I'd try that first.
