I think I got everything in and connected and it looks fairly good. SHould have done these when it was on the spit thinking about it!
Rear comp, soon after the R9 cost cutting changed cars to a single line to the back, split at the axle after the compensator but this has a 4-port MC, and the...
Pardon? Updates you say? You want updates?
Hmmm. OK. Seeing as you've been good.
Fitted the handbrake woggle that Steve dropped off - handbrake now working :)
Thinking of refitting the engine so first, obviously, you gotta sort the brake lines. No brainer. I have a posh brake pipe flare...
Oh, I did have to spend some time getting the washer pump working too, the one in there decided to fill itself with water... would you believe my local factors had one in stock that fitted!
MOT time!
And we have a pass with an advisory that the brake flexi's are a bit old - I will sort this anyway, might as well everything else is new!
Runs and drives nice, engine seems healthy, it did more miles Saturday than its done since November 2017 :)
MOT tester was quite complimentary...
I could bid for it, but as I am obliged to buy and recover it if I win it, you'd have to send me your max bid + fees + recovery cost (ie the amount I would need to pay) to me before I would bid... so basically I would buy it with your funds. Anything else, forget it, I wouldnt expose myself to...
Here is your fee approx if it sold for £4000 - you'll also need to factor in membership of £100 to bid, then recovery. Fees are high, and non-negotiable.
I can tell you this is an insurance write off from an insurance company, expect it to be a categorised car (theyre probably just behind in...
Yeah, its useful to stop you going all the way through, you want the back part intact for plug welding.
I used a wallpaper scraper between the layers to help pop the welds apart, they're thin and strong.
I've got a black & arizona 13 plate 0.9, bought it with a dead engine to fix and sell, the removable machine washable seat covers are a GREAT idea for a little family hack!
Zip-zip-off-wash-dry-zip-zip done. Fantastic.
I centre punch the spot weld, then spot a 2mm drill bit into it a little to give the tip of the spot weld drill a locator point. Works really well. I get about 50-60 spot welds out of one of the double sided spot weld bits in the pic there.
Set the drill depth using the spring loaded pin in the...
Havent decided yet but around £4k most likely, maybe a bit less, i've already got someone thats got first knock on it, and two other interested parties on top of that. I've put about a grand and about 35-40 hours into it so far so it should be a good solid car.
To be honest the body paint and dent wise is not great, the pics are kind - but yes, a Tungsten phase 1 on the OE turbine wheel is the epitomisation of retro cool. Saying that, they car is not rusty by any stretch so a great base to start from. I hope that the next owner will pick up where I...
I bagged a set of the OE 18" wheels to put some nice sticky tyres on, and seeing as I was taking 2 sets of wheels for refurb anyway I thought it rude not to add these in at the same time.
The plan was black.
So anyway.
The answer to "can you get 12 wheels in a 220 Trophy" is yes btw :)...
Always nice to work with shiny new things :)
Cleaned up the centre cap threads on the wheels
Surprising what gets down there
Bodywork going back on
Using new stainless fasteners and spire clips all around - in case it ever darkens my door again at least I know none of these will...
Driveshaft oil seals were leaking, so they got done too
Then I put the hubs back together and chucked the new discs, pads and calipers on, the slider pins torx T40 were rounded out as per usual so I welded 13mm nuts on the end as I didnt have any new ones
And bled all four...
Head retorqued and valve clearences set
I think I went a bit too big on the air filter...
Got the coolant pump thing sorted out finally!
I'll put more detail on this in the next post. Also made the fan loom from scratch.
Wheel refurb complete, new tyres arrived!
I'd rather a solution that didnt relay on me having to collect, prepare and reuse old parts - it's just more hassle and car people are shite at it. Having done a few group buys for bespoke parts i've learned a few lessons! What you suggest would be a nicer solution all told and it is tempting...
This relay controls an aux coolant pump that only works after the car is turned off for ~10mins.
A normal timer relay with delayed shut off wont work because when it gets ign live its on all the time, then when you turn the ign off it delays shut off. This gets an ign live, stays OFF, then...
Oh, yeah and the aux coolant pump, that didnt work. tested the pump and its fine, but the timed relay isn't looking good :( These are impossible to find now and are not just a timer relay due to the way its powered on and off so i'm looking at a way to replicate the functionality - it's about...
Last job Sunday was to look at the back brakes, the handbrake didnt work. The calipers, discs and pads all look very good so I chucked a pair of new handbrake cables on and it adjusted it up. All working! :)
I cut all the fan wiring out, whoever fitted these beasts on the rad used underrated cable and it had got VERY hot
I think that is going in the bin! So is this utterly pathetic air filter, about 1/3 the size of the filter in the OE airbox. Worst mod ever.
Looking a bit better now, I ran...
